This Viral Star Wars Video Totally Fixes Luke Skywalker's Worst Book Of Boba Fett Scene
This viral Star Wars video is the perfect update to Luke Skywalker'sappearance in The Book of Boba Fett. Although there have been a number of brilliant additions to Star Wars movies and TV shows in recent years, The Book of Boba Fett was generally not well-received. Many considered The Book of Boba Fett to be among Star Wars' worst TV shows, even with thrilling cameos from Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Din Djarin, and Grogu—some of Star Wars' best characters.
One of the complaints about The Book of Boba Fett was Luke Skywalker's insistence that Grogu choose between the path of a Jedi or his familial connection to Din Djarin, which seemed to contradict Luke's own life and betray what audiences knew of the character from the original Star Wars trilogy. This TikTok video, posted by skywalkerivey, suggests that Luke Skywalker wanted Grogu to choose Din Djarin all along.
This is a fascinating interpretation of Luke's arc in The Book of Boba Fett, and although it might be a bit surprising, it makes that disappointing story so much better.
Luke Skywalker's Boba Fett Scene Seemed So Wrong... But This Fixes It!
Luke Forcing Grogu To Choose Was Inconsistent With His Character
Although the way of the prequel trilogy Jedi Order was to reject all attachments, both familial and romantic, it was oddly out of character for Luke to insist that Grogu pick between the path of a Jedi or his familial attachment to Din Djarin. For one, Luke himself had familial attachments. This continued to include his twin sister, Leia, but it was arguably attachment itself that saved Luke, Anakin Skywalker, and the larger galaxy. It was only because Luke was Darth Vader's son that he was able to return him to the light side of the Force.
That Luke would abandon that history to insist upon an old rule makes very little sense. What's more, there's not much indication in the sequel trilogy that this rule was upheld to the same degree once Luke had a fully-formed Jedi Temple. For example, although Ben Solo lived and trained at Luke's Temple and didn't live with Han Solo and Leia Organa anymore, he wasn't expected to entirely reject his familial ties. That obviously would have posed its own problems too, given Luke was Ben Solo's uncle, and they couldn't very well pretend that wasn't the case.
In the canon comic Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, it shows the close relationship Luke Skywalker and Ben Solo had even when Ben was being trained as a Jedi.
Our Take On The Book Of Boba Fett's Luke Skywalker
This Explanation Would Need Fleshing Out, But It At Least Resolves One Key Issue
This video poses an interesting theory, but it would also need considerably more explanation to hold up. The episode doesn't exactly drop hints that Luke is hoping Grogu chooses to walk away, especially given Ahsoka is having a nearly identical conversation with Din Djarin at the same time. In fact, Ahsoka's presence is what really sells the idea that Luke was committed to upholding this Jedi rule against attachments, as she was almost certainly how Luke knew about it in the first place.
Even so, it would be nice if this were confirmed to be true. It was disappointing to see Luke act in a way that was so out of character and uphold a Jedi rule that had long been flawed (and that Luke had already proven didn't need to be so black and white). With this video, though, that lingering Luke Skywalker issue in The Book of Boba Fett could be resolved.
