Like It or Not, One Piece Just Set Up the Return of Its Most Controversial Villain

One Piece has been taking an interesting direction in the past few arcs, and the Elbaf arc in particular is full of opportunities for further development of crucial plot points. Furthermore, the arc allows the perfect chance for one long-awaited villain to make his return and hopefully complete his character arc, as well as help readers make sense of one of the series' biggest mysteries.

The Elbaf arc, the new storyline where the Strawhats journey into the land of the Giants, has explored the theme of Godhood, a concept that was always present in the story, but not to this degree. Chapter #1138 of One Piecepushed deeper into this frontier by revealing the existence of the Rain God and Forest God, as well as sharing more about the Sun God Nika. With this arc diving deep into the divine, there is no better time than now to bring back Enel, the main villain of Skypiea and one of the series' most interesting and mysterious characters.

Enel's Return Has Been Long Overdue

The Former God Of Skypiea Should Return Sooner Rather Than Later

Enel was defeated at the end of the arc by Luffy, Skypiea was finally freed, and the villain ended up going to the Moon using his Ark Maxim. Ever since then, there have been no hints or mentions of him. However, many fans are almost certain about Enel's return, because he is the only known character who has ties to the Moon and the ancient civilization of Birka. He knows about its history and seeks to return to the land of Fairy Vearth. While the Moon People and Birka remain largely a mystery, these important facets of the story will surely be expanded on, since One Piece's story is now at its climax.

One Piece Teases The Return Of A Villain Who Could Explain Many Huge Mysteries

One Piece chapter #1114 has a big tease for Eneru's return to the series, and with that could come answers for some of the story's biggest mysteries.

Another big reason that warrants the return of Enel is the increased relevance of Imu, the mysterious ruler of the World Government. The series has established intriguing parallels between the two characters, who are almost like Gods. From how they destroy islands from the sky using boats and have their own minions that do their bidding to their God-complexes, the two characters have many identical characteristics. The False God Enel and the Sea God Imu might have more than just similarities and could even have the same origins.

Interestingly, the Harley contained an image of a boat that was shooting lightning and destroying an island. While it looked very similar to the Ark Maxim, it could also be the Mother Flame-powered Uranus, which destroyed Lulusia in a similar fashion. This is yet another interesting parallel between the two characters, as well as a hint at the relevance of Enel.

Over the past two arcs, the series has been dropping incredible lore reveals such as the world sinking, the history of the three worlds, the duality of Nika, and more, and bringing back Enel would hopefully shed light on the lore of the Moon. Furthermore, having his return so close to the Final War would make the ultimate battle even more exciting and chaotic, and like Oda said, it would make Marineford look like nothing. One Piece has never been more thrilling than it is now, and with many potential reveals on the horizon that are sure to rock the fandom, Enel's eventual return is among the most intriguing.
