Netflix Just Dropped The Witcher's New Anime Without Anyone Noticing

Netflix has just released The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, an anime adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s A Little Sacrifice, but it has a surprising lack of buzz from fans. The film premiered on February 11, 2025, yet it seems to have flown completely under the radar. Neither the anime community nor The Witcher fandom has taken much notice, leaving this adaptation strangely absent from major discussions.

Despite featuring major returning cast members like Doug Cockle as Geralt and Joey Batey as Jaskier, Sirens of the Deep has not received the same level of marketing as The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Given Netflix’s previous success with animated adaptations, the lack of promotion is puzzling. With the departure of Henry Cavill from the live-action series, this could have been a prime opportunity to reignite fan excitement for the franchise, but instead, it has come and gone with little fanfare.

A Strong Story That Deserved More Attention

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is an Amazing Anime That Fans Need to Watch

One of the most exciting aspects of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is its direct adaptation of A Little Sacrifice, a beloved short story from Sword of Destiny. Unlike Nightmare of the Wolf, which expanded on Vesemir’s background, this film sticks closely to Sapkowski’s original work. It follows Geralt as he investigates strange happenings involving a siren named Sh’eenaz and a tragic romance that mirrors his own complicated relationship with Yennefer.

This should have been a major draw from long-time fans, especially with its faithful adaptation and established characters. The film was created in collaboration with Studio Mir and Studio IAM, both known for their high-quality animation. Yet, even with these factors, the film’s release felt almost like a quiet drop rather than a major event in The Witcher universe. Without strong marketing, even the most dedicated fans seemed to have missed its arrival.

Why Was Sirens of the Deep Overlooked?

Why Are People Not Talking About Sirens of the Deep?

One possible reason for the lack of attention is Netflix's shifting focus on The Witcher franchise. With the upcoming Liam Hemsworth-led season of the live-action series, the company may have chosen to prioritize its marketing efforts elsewhere. The transition away from Henry Cavill has already been divisive, so it is possible that Netflix was hesitant to draw further scrutiny to the franchise.

While Castlevania and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners thrived due to strong promotion, other animated releases have been quietly buried under the algorithm

Additionally, Netflix’s recent track record with animated projects has been spotty at best. While Castlevania and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners thrived due to strong promotion, other animated releases have been quietly buried under the algorithm. If The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep had been given a more strategic release campaign, it could have stood alongside Nightmare of the Wolf as a celebrated expansion of the universe. Instead, it risks becoming just another overlooked entry in The Witcher saga.
