Celebrate The End Of Cobra Kai With The Best Of The Show’s Music On Vinyl
As Cobra Kaicomes to an end, pop culture collectible retailer Mutant is offering a massive box set featuring music from the series’ latter seasons. The three-disc set features the best pieces of music from Cobra Kai seasons 4, 5, and 6, curated by the show’s composers Zach Robinson and Leo Birenberg. The set boasts a total of 38 pieces of music, including the composers’ hard-hitting collaborations with Polyphia’s Tim Henson and guitar virtuoso Charlie Robbins. It also has liner notes written by the composers and artwork by Matt Ryan Tobin, and will sell for $55.
The vinyl is released as Cobra Kai ends with season 6, and a seemingly unrelated new Karate Kid film, Karate Kid: Legends, will continue the story of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and other key franchise characters. Therefore, it’s one of the best ways to celebrate the work that Birenberg and Robinson, Emmy-winning composers who also worked on Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Twisted Metal, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, contributed to the series. Take a look at the set below–it goes on sale at 10am PT/1pm ET at www.madebymutant.com.
How The Music Of Zach Robinson & Leo Birenberg Shaped Cobra Kai
ScreenRant’s Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 review dubs the final stretch of episodes as granting a “near-perfect ending for its characters”, and thought they didn’t pen the scripts, composers Zach Robinson and Leo Birenberg have consistently elevated the show since the very beginning. Since the first season, the pair have subtly connected Cobra Kai to its Karate Kid roots by creating a sonic world that bridges modern screen scoring with the sound of the classic ‘80s film.
During an extensive interview with ScreenRant detailing their favorite pieces of music from the start of the show up through season 6, part 2, the composers also revealed that part of their job was to give the audience “permission to enjoy” the show by creating a sound that was both over-the-top and perfectly suited to its emotions. Cobra Kai has never pulled punches with its intense fight scenes and often soapy dramatic moments, and the score by Birenberg and Robinson has always invited viewers in to become fully invested in what was happening on screen.
The composers also adapted with every twist and turn the story has taken along the way. The Cobra Kai Volume 2 Box Set features music from the latter half of the series, which is notably bigger and bolder than where it started. To match the scope of the story, the composers enlisted some of the world’s most proficient guitarists and bassists and borrowed from genres as varied as flamenco and progressive rock. Hopefully, the composers will be involved in any future Cobra Kai spinoff series.
