At Long Last, Cable May Have Finally Found His True Timeline, But Will It Survive?

Cable has had a harder life than most mutants. Born as Mister Sinister’s experiment, infected with a cybernetic virus, and sent to the future to become a hardened freedom fighter, he’s been through a few things. But, his time-traveling escapades have finally landed him somewhere he can truly belong with people just like him. However, Cable’s happiness may be short-lived in this harsh battle-torn future.

Cable: Love & Chrome - by David Pepose and Mike Henderson - is a new series that follows Cable on a new mission to help the dystopian refugee city of Salvation Bay emerge victorious in a war for survival. After a botched mission sends him to an unknown time and place, Cable finds himself in a city filled with people living with the Techno-Organic Virus.

Until now, Cable believed that he was the only survivor of the virus in all history. Now, the time-traveling mutant has teamed up with an equally badass freedom fighter named Commander Avery Ryder, sparking a prospective romance between them.

Cable’s fight against the Techno-Organic Virus has existed since before his birth. After unintentionally introducing it to Apocalypse as a time-traveling adult, Apocalypse infected an infant Cable with the virus to ensure the time-loop occurred. Since then, the X-Man has had to rely on his psychic abilities to stave off the infection. However, despite his travels and constant fighting, Cable has yet to find a permanent cure for his fatal cybernetic disease. That said, after finding himself in a timeline when others lived with the virus, his fight to survive the virus has changed into a fight to save others.

No longer alone in his war against the virus, Cable is almost unable to speak at first. Salvation Bay, while ragged and poor, is sprawling with thousands of others just like him. However, it’s this local community's leader, Avery Ryder, who has really made it feel like a possible new home for the hero. Ryder is practically identical to Cable in every way. With one full infected arm, an arsenal of futuristic-looking weapons, and a battle-hardened mind tempered by the heart of a hero, Ryder is Cable’s perfect other half.

War Is Never Too Far Away From the X-Man

Is This Cable’s Final Stop in Time?

As expected, there is little peace where Cable travels. Salvation Bay is under the threat of an oppressive government of the Prime Conclave. Unwilling to cure the virus, the Conclave uses Salvation Bay as an internment camp for the infected. Alone, Avery and her resistance were struggling. But with Cable as part of the party, the tides may be shifting in her favor. Unfortunately, there is a rogue element caught in the fray. While the X-Man is now caught in a civil war for survival, an assassin with a grudge is hunting Cable down across space and time.

If he finds a way to survive this dystopian future, Cable may have just found a permanent home worth fighting for.

In a twist of fate, Cable has found a time when he belongs. Here, he can make a difference for people who need it and have found people who can accept every part of him. And, for the first time, Cable may finally have the opportunity to find a cure for the Techno-Organic Virus and free himself from a lifelong fight for survival. If he finds a way to survive this dystopian future, Cable may have just found a permanent home worth fighting for.

Cable: Love and Chrome #1 is now available from Marvel Comics.
