MANILA – Adamson University defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 25-15, 26-24, 25-14, Sunday night to sweep the Visayas leg of the 2025 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals at the Mandaue Sports Complex in Cebu.

Alas Pilipinas member Shaina Nitura flashed her brilliant form again, scoring 23 points off 15 attacks, four blocks and four aces to secure the Best Player award as the Lady Falcons claimed victory after a runner-up finish in 2023.

The Lady Falcons were up 19-9 in the third set when the Blue Eagles moved to within seven. But Nitura led a 6-2 run to seal the win.

“I thank God for the performance of my players. I thank God for this tournament where we won three straight wins. I’m very proud of my players, and I'm really happy to see them gradually making progress," said Adamson head coach JP Yude, who also steered the team to the 2024 Shakey’s Girls Invitational Volleyball League crown.

Meanwhile, University of San Carlos (USC) prevailed over archrival University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14, to secure second place.

Ghanna Suan scored 14 points while Angel Galinato and Juliane Yu added 11 and 10 points, respectively for the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) champion Lady Warriors, who finished with a 2-1 win-loss record.

“Maybe it was just the girls' eagerness; their eagerness in the second set increased. In the first set, they were still adjusting,” said USC head coach Grace Antigua, a member of the national team that won gold in the 1981, 1985, and 1987 Southeast Asian Games.

“It's a big deal, and we're thankful that Shakey's Super League came here because this is like our preliminary game before Cesafi," she added.

Ateneo settled for the bronze with a 1-2 card.

NCAA champion College of St. Benilde, Letran, Far Eastern University and University of Batangas will see action in the Luzon leg scheduled Aug. 29 to 31 in Batangas. (PNA)
