“Justice League Green”: DC Is Teasing the Creation Of a Godly New Team

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Justice League Unlimited #4!Despite being the biggest and most coordinated incarnation of the Justice League, the DC Universe's best heroes are preparing to create a powerful and more focused team. As Justice League Unlimited faces off in their most harrowing battle against Inferno yet, one of the most forward-thinking members is already planning a new team to safeguard the world.

In Justice League Unlimited #4 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Mister Terrific recruits Tefé Holland, the daughter of the previous Swamp Thing, to assist the League after Inferno kills Levi Kamei, the current avatar. Holland reluctantly agrees to protect the Green and is augmented with magical powers.

Holland and Aquaman team up to go into the Green and find Levi, who's recuperating from Inferno's attack. Holland manages to revive Kamei, and Swamp Thing undoes Inferno's damage to the Amazon Rainforest. As the Justice League debriefs from the mission, Mister Terrific scribbles down an idea for a 'Justice League Green'.

Ever since the Justice League reformed, they've been facing coordinated attacks by Inferno, a mysterious terrorist group who has been making plays for various parts of the world. They first came onto the Justice League's radar when they attacked South Africa to destroy a village's entire supply of iridium. Though the League managed to push back against their new antagonists, Inferno returned for their most devastating attack so far. They set the Amazon Rainforest ablaze with magical pillars. They were so prepared for this attack on the Amazon, that Inferno actually managed to set fire and temporarily kill Swamp Thing.

It's become clear to Mister Terrific that Inferno is out to do devastation on a global scale. Right now, the Justice League doesn't know who is behind Inferno or how they were able to cause such chaos so quickly. But Terrific is smart enough to know that the Green is a vital part of the Earth's stability and the Justice League needs people that are equipped to protect it. A Justice League Green is a solid idea, especially since the JLU's increased effort allows for such dedicated sub-teams. The question is, who will join the DC Universe’s collective of eco-warriors?

Thankfully, there are a lot of powerful heroes connected to the Green, like Kamei and Holland (though she's expressed disinterest at being any kind of superhero). But with the Green in danger, it's not outrageous to think that a Justice League Green is possible. Heck, it could even inspire heroes who haven't been seen in a while to join, like Black Orchid. It could even be the thing that finally brings Poison Ivy over to the heroes' side for good. Though this new team is just an idea for now, it could be vital to protecting the DC Universe's future.

Justice League Unlimited #4 is available now from DC Comics.
