Nonetheless, fans often want to leave the complexities of today and focus on simpler, yet memorable stories, such as the many timeless classics the industry has to offer.

The 80s was a time during which many of the greatest anime of all time were introduced. It has many hidden gems, as well as massively popular franchises that helped define what the industry would look like for decades to come. While not all the shows from the time have become classics, many have only improved with time, maintaining their quality, moving messages, and exciting storylines even decades after they were first introduced.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross

Animated by Studio Nue

After an alien ship crashed into Earth, scientists worked tirelessly to reverse-engineer the technology, opening the door for human intergalactic travel. While this should have been a momentous occasion, the celebrations were short-lived, as the alien race from whom the shuttle came, the Zentradi, arrived at the planet looking for their missing vessel. Despite the pilot of the new ship, Hikaru Ichijyo, attempting to prevent a war, the ship's automated weapons activated, destroying the Zentradi fleet. Now involved in an intergalactic fight, humans will have to learn how to survive the unforgiving emptiness of space if they wish to see their species thrive once again.

Macross is a series that will enchant fans of mecha, action, and music anime alike, thanks to its unique premise and memorable battles. New fans might not expect this, but the franchise is also greatly appreciated online for its unique approach to the idol genre. The show uses singers and artists to give fans a better understanding of what civilians might experience during this gruesome war. This entry is what commenced one of the biggest franchises in existence, so popular that many of its best shows have recently been made available for fans online for old-school fans to enjoy.

Fist of the North Star

Animated by Toei Animation

After World War III devastated the Earth, water became the most precious resource a person could own. The scarcity of this vital liquid quickly drove the world into chaos, with the strongest warriors in the world becoming ruthless dictators with no one who could stop them. Fans who wish to see one of anime’s strongest martial artists will not want to miss this classic. Still, the series is quite more violent than others in the genre, so viewers who are not fond of blood and gore should take their precautions before watching it.
