I’m Struggling To Understand Sister Wives’ Star Meri Brown’s Relationship With Kody Brown (Does He Still Have Her Loyalty?)
Sister Wivesstar Meri Brown has taken her time untangling her life from her ex-husband, Kody Brown, and his only remaining wife, Robyn Brown, and at this point, I’m struggling to understand their relationship. Meri, who’s been featured throughout Sister Wives season 19 sharing moments primarily with Kody and Robyn, has taken a stand in the last few seasons that she doesn’t always stand by. Meri’s complicated history with Kody spans over the last thirty years, beginning with the couple’s marriage in 1990. As the first in a series of marriages for Kody, Meri had the coveted first wife role.
Working through plural marriage wasn’t easy, and Meri understood what she was jumping into when she married Kody in the early 1990s. After decades together, Kody’s family had expanded while Meri was beginning to feel like she wasn’t in the role she initially thought. When Robyn was brought into the family, the final wife coming in after Janelle Brown and Christine Brown, it was clear Kody had a different sort of relationship with her. Meri observed from the outside, but things became difficult through the years, pushing Meri and Kody apart until their marriage came to an end in 2022.
Meri loves that she’s a loyal, unwavering person, but I think she may need to reevaluate that decision when it comes to Kody.

She’s Often Loyal To A Fault
Although Meri has been able to move past her loyalty to Kody in a romantic sense, there have been moments throughout Sister Wives season 19 that make it clear she still feels some obligation to her ex-husband and his current wife. After spending over 30 years with Kody in a marriage, it makes sense that it would take Meri some time to adjust to a new normal, but her behavior has been concerning in some ways. Meri’s relationships with Kody and Robyn, respectively, have been difficult in recent years, which should remove some of the pressure to be loyal.

Despite the fact that Meri should feel some of the pressure to be loyal to her ex-husband lifting, it appears she’s doubling down on her sense of loyalty to them, which makes sense for Meri. As a woman of faith and a part of a long-standing plural marriage, Meri’s leading tenant in life is loyalty. She prides herself on being unabashedly loyal until she’s given a reason not to, and even then sometimes afterward. Meri loves that she’s a loyal, unwavering person, but I think she may need to reevaluate that decision when it comes to Kody.
Kody’s Behavior Toward Meri Has Been Overwhelming & Upsetting
He’s Dismissive & Belittling When It Comes To Meri
While Meri has been clear that she’s living independently, there have been moments throughout Sister Wives season 19 where she relies on Kody’s help or feels comfortable sharing information from her fellow ex-sister wives with the Brown family patriarch. Though Meri’s talking head interviews throughout the episodes make her seem uninterested in pursuing any kind of relationship with Kody or Robyn, her actions within the show’s episodes aren’t giving the same message. I’ve been struggling with Meri in the current season, as she seems to say one thing and do another, allowing Kody into her life after his terrible behavior.
Meri’s behavior has been odd, especially after the culmination of Sister Wives season 18 revealed that Kody was trying to string her along in a way that made her look bad on screen. According to Meri, Kody revealed that he felt their marriage was effectively over, but wanted to continue to fake it for the cameras so he didn’t look bad. After ignoring her, pushing her away, refuting her feelings and attempts to fix things, and offering to have her live in an unfinished barn on top of other atrocities, I’m not sure how Meri can handle his dismissive belittlement.
Meri Should Blacklist Kody & Robyn From Her Life
She Should Put Herself First
Although Meri and Kody’s legal marriage came to an end in 2014, long before their spiritual marriage ended in 2022, it feels like she hasn’t entirely let him or Robyn go from her life. Throughout Sister Wives season 19, Meri has shown that she’s strong enough and independent enough to move forward, but she hasn’t been choosing to do so. Rather than being a new version of herself and trying to build from the ground up, Meri has been keeping Kody and Robyn close. Personally, I think she should blacklist her ex-husband and his remaining wife from her life.
Meri’s interactions with Kody and Robyn have been painfully uncomfortable throughout the season, and knowing that Meri’s not getting anything out of them makes me feel like she wouldn’t miss their presence at all. In moving forward with her life, Meri should choose to remove Kody and Robyn from her circle. Meri putting herself first and deciding to protect her peace from Kody, Robyn, and their dysfunctional circle of lies would be a great step forward for the Sister Wives star in her new life. I’d love to see Meri finally break the cycle of loyalty she has with Kody.
