Wonder Woman's New Lasso Is Her Best Yet and DC Comics Wants Everyone to Know
Warning! Spoilers for Absolute Wonder Woman #5!Ask anyone what Wonder Woman's most iconic weapon is, and almost everyone will answer with the Lasso of Truth. This answer would be perfectly acceptable - correct, even - but that's no longer the case in the Absolute Universe. Wonder Woman has a brand-new lasso, and it's unlike anything she's ever had before.
Wonder Woman having a new lasso isn't breaking news. It's been known since before Absolute Wonder Woman #1 by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman was released that Wonder Woman held the Nemesis Lasso in the Absolute Universe, but surprisingly, she has a second lasso as well. This lasso is far more powerful than anything fans were expecting.
First seen in Absolute Wonder Woman #5 by Thompson and Sherman, this new lasso, known as Θυσία - or, in English, the Lasso of Sacrifice - has some incredible power. This Lasso allows things to transmogrify, transforming them into something else entirely - including Wonder Woman herself, as she transforms into a giant Medusa in order to defeat her monstrous enemy.
Wonder Woman's Lasso of Sacrifice Lets the Wielder Take on New Forms
Absolute Wonder Woman #5 by Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, and Becca Carey.
Truth is a tricky thing, and it can come in many different forms. Wonder Woman's iconic Lasso of Truth has always been about making people see or say the truth. It can dispel illusions and compel people to tell the truth instead of lying. The Lasso of Sacrifice takes this idea in a completely different direction, as it has the power to transmogrify, turning people and objects into new forms. But an interesting detail is that the new form depends on the old form. In other words, it's possible that the Lasso of Sacrifice can force people to take on their true form.

I Love Wonder Woman, But Even I Admit Her Original Name Was Really Rough
Even the most devoted Diana Prince fans might be surprised to learn that Wonder Woman wasn’t her original name. Instead, she was called [SPOILER].
Why this makes Wonder Woman transform into Medusa is currently unknown, but it's an incredibly powerful transformation. Wonder Woman's size and strength are both vastly increased, and she gains the typical Medusa ability of transforming anyone she looks at into stone, which is how she manages to defeat the Tetracide. If the Lasso of Sacrifice can do this to Wonder Woman, then it begs the question of just what effect it will have on anyone else she uses it on.
Wonder Woman's New Lasso Lets Her Take on a Monstrous Form
Does This Form Have a Hidden Truth Behind It?
The Absolute Universe has been a fantastic reinvention of DC's most iconic characters. Wonder Woman has by far gotten some of the coolest new lore and tools, such as a magical arm, a sword that can become gigantic, a bottomless pouch, and even an undead version of Pegasus. It would have been so easy to give Wonder Woman another Lasso of Truth that functions identically to the original, but instead, Thompson and Sherman decided to go further and give her not only the Nemesis Lasso but also the Lasso of Sacrifice to really spice things up.
It's a fresh take on the character that adds plenty of exciting new elements without ever straying too far from what the character was originally created for.
Absolute Wonder Woman is, without a doubt, the best Wonder Woman story that DC is currently putting out. It's a fresh take on the character that adds plenty of exciting new elements without ever straying too far from what the character was originally created for. While Batman will always have fantastic gadgets and Superman has his wide variety of powers, Absolute Wonder Woman has managed to get some of the coolest new additions, and DC is right to want everyone to know about them.
