Wheel Of Time Season 3 Hints At A Massive Change To How Egwene Will Do THAT In The Show
Warning: Spoilers for Lord of Chaos, the sixth book in The Wheel of Time series
Egwene's rise to power in Prime Video'sThe Wheel of Timemay play out very differently from how it transpired in the source material. It's no secret to readers of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books that Egwene a'Vere is destined to become the Amylrin Seat, the title given to the leader of the Aes Sedai. The show itself hasn't shied away from this either, as it's already dropped a not-so-subtle clue about Egwene's future.
Min's vision of Egwene and a "white flame" all but confirms that Egwene - like her book counterpart - will eventually become the Amyrlin Seat. But that's not to say the journey toward that transformation will match the books step-for-step. The series is expected to start inching toward that development, with some of the most notable movements likely to happen in The Wheel of Time season 3. But from the looks of things, the TV version of Egwene may find herself on a more direct path to becoming the Amyrlin Seat.
How Egwene Became The Amyrln Seat In The Books
For Egwene, Becoming The Amylrin Seat Was An Abrupt Change
The first significant step toward Egwene's ascension took place in The Shadow Rising, the book where Siuan Sanche was deposed and stilled for her role in Moiraine's secret mission to find the Dragon Reborn. Siuan Sanche's removal culminated in Elaida seizing her position, and ultimately, the rebellion of several Aes Sedai within the White Tower. The Aes Sedai rebels formed their own faction to oppose Elaida, and were eventually joined by the stilled Siuan, who convinced them that they needed their own Amyrlin Seat if they were to be taken seriously. To this end, they picked a new Amylrin Seat, Egwene.

The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Is Finally Fixing A Frustrating Rand Change
Rand’s progression as a swordmaster is an integral part of his character arc in the books; now in season 3 of the show, he may finally start that arc.
Becoming the leader of the rebels - even if it was just in-name-only at first - completely changed the status quo for Egwene in book 6, Lord of Chaos. After all, she had only been an Accepted - and therefore not a true Aes Sedai - prior to the transition. What's more, she had limited interactions with the Aes Sedai up to that point, as Egwene had just spent nearly two books in the Aiel Waste while learning from the Wise Ones. In time, though, she gained genuine authority and respect among the Aes Sedai, and was formally recognized as the true Amyrlin Seat in book 12, The Gathering Storm, when Elaida was finally overthrown.
It Looks Like Egwene Will Play A Direct Role In The White Tower Conflict
Egwene Appears To Be A Key Player In Season 3's White Tower Drama
The new Wheel of Time trailer provides a preview of the schism in the White Tower. In the footage, characters such as the soon-to-be-introduced Elaida and Siuan acknowledge the unrest that's building in the White Tower. What's most striking about that is that Egwene is among those to make mention of it. Early in the trailer, Egwene can be heard saying, "This tower is destroying itself from the inside out." This is a clear indication that she will be one of the many characters tied to the show's adaptation of The Shadow Rising's White Tower story arc.
On one hand, it would make sense for the future Amyrln Seat to play a role in the story that sets up her rise.
On one hand, it would make sense for the future Amyrln Seat to play a role in the story that sets up her rise. Even so, that would be a departure from the source material, given that Egwene was not around when all this was taking place. She was in the Aiel Waste learning how to use her Dreaming abilities from the Wise Ones. Instead, Wheel of Time leaned on Siuan Sanche, Min Farshaw, and Logain Ablar when telling this particular story.
Now, it would appear that Egwene will play a direct role in these events, commenting on the division in the White Tower. Whether the show will go further than that, though, remains to be seen. But since she is there, Egwene being a strong voice against Elaida's influence and possibly even an active participant against her coup feels like a strong possibility for the series.
How Egwene Can Be Involved In Both The White Tower & Aiel Waste Stories In Wheel Of Time Season 3
Egwene Doesn't Have To Go To The Aiel Waste Physically
Pulling Egwene into the White Tower narrative with Siuan, Elaida, and the others doesn't necessarily mean the show has to choose between that and her Aiel Waste adventure when it comes to crafting her season 3 story. It's important to note that the very nature of her Talent will allow Egwene to be in two places at once.
Egwene can interact with Rand and learn from the Wise Ones without ever stepping foot into the Aiel Waste.
Theoretically, Egwene can interact with Rand and learn from the Wise Ones without ever stepping foot into the Aiel Waste. By entering Tel'aran'rhiod aka the World of Dreams, Egwene can get her Aiel Waste story there, all while living in the White Tower. This would make it possible for The Wheel of Time to get Egwene entangled in White Tower politics early on in the narrative without sacrificing an integral part of her journey.
The Wheel Of Time Would Need A New Reason To Make Egwene The Amyrlin Seat
Not Being Involved In The Coup Is Why Egwene Was Picked
If The Wheel of Time does indeed make Egwene a key character in season 3's White Tower arc, this would put the series in a position where it would need a new justification for her raising. In the books, Egwene's lack of involvement in the White Tower conflict was a massive factor in their decision-making. When picking the next Amyrlin Seat, one of the criteria they outlined was that the candidate would be a female channeler disconnected from the entire situation. Egwene easily met that qualification since she hadn't been a party to the fighting and wasn't even a true Aes Sedai yet.
If that's not true of the TV character, Prime Video's show may have to emphasize a different element to get her where she needs to be. In the books, The Aes Sedai originally thought Egwene could be manipulated to serve their goals and didn't learn to trust her until after she was raised. Potentially, The Wheel of Time could reverse their strategy in the books and have her assistance in the conflict shape their confidence in what Egwene could bring to the table as the Amylrin Seat.
