Wednesday Season 2's Villain Return Looks Way More Terrifying & Keeps Jenna Ortega's Biggest Promise

The new teaser for Netflix's upcoming 2025 releases gives a first look at Wednesday and Tyler in Wednesday season 2, and the latter’s return lives up to a promise made by star Jenna Ortega. After almost three years of waiting, Wednesday season 2 is finally coming to Netflix in 2025, with hints about the story and details about new and returning characters slowly being unveiled. It’s still unclear which dark mystery Ortega’s Wednesday Addams will be solving at Nevermore Academy this season, but the new teaser reveals it’ll once again involve the Hyde/Tyler Galpin.

While only a few seconds of footage are shown in Netflix’s 2025 releases teaser, the clip reveals that Tyler (in his human form) is being chained up in Willow Hill, the same psychiatric hospital his Hyde mother was sent to years before. Wednesday seemingly appears in front of him in his hospital room in one of her psychic visions, with Tyler menacingly looking up at her while in solitary. After the events of Wednesday season 1’s ending, it seems Tyler is out for revenge, and his confined return indicates season 2 is living up to its genre and tone teases.

Tyler's Return At Willow Hill In Wednesday Season 2 Looks More Horrifying Than In Season 1

Tyler's Villain Return Looks Frightening At Willow Hill

The end of Wednesday season 1 revealed that the identity of the Hyde monster targeting outcasts was none other than Wednesday’s romantic interest Tyler, whose mother was also a Hyde and former outcast student at Nevermore Academy. Tyler was being manipulated and influenced by the villainous Ms. Thornhill (aka Laurel Gates), who was targeting the outcasts in order to revive her ancestor Joseph Crackstone, but unleashing his uncontrollable and dangerous Hyde had lethal consequences that led to Tyler being forcibly moved to the Willow Hill psychiatric hospital in season 1’s final moments.

There were only a few moments during season 1 in which Tyler was actually shown in his Hyde state, and hardly any that truly emphasized his villainous twists in his human form. However, that’s going to change in season 2 based on Netflix’s newly released footage. The clip of Tyler in the hospital facing Wednesday is extremely unsettling, and highlights how volatile, angry, and filled with vengeance he’ll be in the upcoming episodes. He’ll almost certainly blame Wednesday for his captivity, and his rage as both Hyde and human will be difficult to control without Christina Ricci’s Ms. Thornhill.

Not to mention, Tyler’s villainous side appears to be haunting Wednesday in her visions, giving her more terrifying nightmares to contend with despite his being locked up in chains. The quick glimpse of Tyler at Willow Hill seems to indicate that the treatment of outcasts there will be quite brutal and inhumane, which will certainly only fuel Tyler’s rage as the Hyde instead of calm it. From the scars on Tyler’s face to the tears in his eyes when facing Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams, it’s implied he’s suffered more horrors during his time at Willow Hill.

Ortega Previously Revealed That Wednesday Season 2 Would Be More Horror-Inspired

Tyler’s dark return in Wednesday season 2 looks far more menacing and frightening than he or the other villains looked in season 1, which is a relief after Jenna Ortega’s promises about the show’s upcoming changes. Ortega previously explained that Wednesday season 2 would be diving deeper into horror elements and taking on somewhat of a darker tone and mood than season 1. One widespread fan complaint with season 1 was that it wasn’t dark or macabre enough compared to previous Addams Family movies and TV shows, especially with its teen drama components, which season 2 is working to address.

Wednesday season 2 has yet to receive an official release date from Netflix in 2025.

While stepping away from Wednesday season 1’s divisive love triangle, Ortega, who also serves as an executive producer in season 2, noted that the series is leaning into more horror inspirations – but certainly won’t be a gory take on the iconic kooky family. The actress elaborated that, since Wednesday is also being watched by younger audiences, it can’t be too scary, but its TV-14 rating still allows the series to take more advantage of the franchise’s dark, macabre elements. As revealed so far, Wednesday’s haunting psychic visions and Tyler’s captivity both lend themselves well to supporting season 2’s horror emphasis.

Wednesday Season 2 Still Has An Important Villain Complaint To Address

Tyler's Hyde CGI In Wednesday Season 1 Needed More Work

Tyler’s return after his villain twist in Wednesday season 1 looks extremely promising, but the series has still yet to tease what his Hyde will look like in season 2. A common fan complaint after Wednesday’s season 1 finale was that the CGI for the Hyde monster wasn’t up to par, appearing too glossy and synthetic to the point that it became distracting. It’s a bigger issue that Wednesday season 2 has to address in its efforts to make Tyler’s return more genuinely scary and unsettling.

The hope is that Tim Burton and Wednesday’s co-creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, stepping further away from CGI and prioritizing practical effects in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) will be translated to season 2. The Sandworm and creepy ghosts in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice looked fantastic, providing a great blueprint for Wednesday to follow with designs for outcasts and creatures like the Hyde.
