The Boys Season 5 Stages Major Supernatural Reunion With Jared Padalecki & Another Surprise Star
Core cast members from Supernatural will be reuniting in The Boys season 5. The long-running drama starred Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as monster-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. It also featured Misha Collins as the angel Castiel, who first appeared in season 4 and eventually became the third longest-running character in the series. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke also created the Prime Video superhero series, which features Ackles as Soldier Boy, a character who is set to return in The Boys season 5, which is due in 2026.
On the official @TheBoysTV X account, a video reveals that a major casting coup has taken place and that The Boys season 5 will feature Jensen Ackles reuniting with his Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. The video features Ackles telling Jared "we got work to do... again" before the video cuts to Padalecki, who delivers a similar message to Collins while standing in front of the Winchesters' car. Collins then appears in the final shot to jokingly ask "what are we doing?" So far, the roles that Padalecki and Collins will play are unknown. See the post below:
What This Means For The Boys Season 5
This Casting Announcement Is Huge
These appearances by the main trio from the Supernatural cast mark a historic reunion. Although the actors have made various public appearances together, in addition to participating in various fund-raising efforts and documentaries, this marks the first time that all three stars will be performing onscreen in the same project since the long-running CW series went off the air in 2020. The closest that any project has come to this since that time came in 2022 when Ackles directed a season 2 episode of The CW's Walker, which stars Padalecki.
Collins has not collaborated on a narrative project with either Padalecki or Ackles since 2020.
Given the fact that both series were created by Kripke, there have been quite a few Supernatural actors in The Boys before Padalecki and Collins joined the cast. This includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jim Beaver, Nathan Mitchell, and Lesley Nicol. However, their appearances will be the most profound of all, as Padalecki was Ackles' co-lead Collins played one of the longest-running characters by far. His No. 3 position in the show is cemented by his appearance in 146 episodes, which is significantly more than the next longest-running performer, which was Beaver with 68 episodes.
Our Take On The Boys' Supernatural Reunion
Padalecki And Collins' Characters Will Probably Be Short-Lived
So far, there is no word as to how long Padalecki and Collins' tenure in The Boyswill last. There is a chance that they could appear in multiple episodes, as their shows Walker and Gotham Knights both recently ended, and neither has any other upcoming projects announced. However, given the darkly humorous tone of the Prime Video series, it seems likely that the Supernatural reunion will be undercut in some way, most likely with the rapid and violent deaths of their characters.
