MANILA – Kaohsiung Taipower of Taiwan opened its Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Champions League campaign in dominant fashion, sweeping Hong Kong’s Hip Hing, 25-10, 25-16, 25-14, at Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday.

Peng Yu-Rou led the charge with 16 points built on 15 attacks and an ace, while Tsai Yu-Chun added 11 off eight attacks, two aces, and a block to secure Taipower’s first win in Pool B.

Hsu Wan-Yun contributed seven points, team captain Huang Ching Hsuan had six points, and middle blockers Hu Xiao-Pei and Pao Yin-Chi scored five points each.

“It’s important for me as a volleyball player to gain this kind of experience. It also [matters] that our team gets to experience participating in a tournament like this,” starting setter Hung Chia-Yao, who had 10 digs and two points, said after the 64-minute match.

“It is a new experience in our life and we can [have] many learnings in other countries like how they play volleyball and for our communication also,” Hu Xiao-Pei added.

Hip Hing’s outside hitter Pang Wing Lam scored seven points while setter Fung Tsz Yan added four.

A nine-time champion in Taiwan’s Top Volleyball League, Taipower will next face Petro Gazz, the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference champion, at 4 p.m. Monday.

Hip Hing, Hong Kong Women’s Volleyball League reigning champion, will try to bounce back against Petro Gazz at 7 p.m. Tuesday. (PNA)
