Star Wars Rebels Just Got the Perfect Epilogue, And It Puts Hera Center Stage

In Marvel's current Star Wars comics, the Alliance has come a long way since its humble beginnings and is finally on the verge of defeating the Empire and reinstating the Galactic Republic. The culmination of all their hard work comes together at the Battle of Jakku. As the battle commences, a subtle reference to Star Wars Rebels shows just how dedicated some of the earliest members of the Rebellion really are.

In Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #4 by creative team Alex Segura, Jethro Morales, Jim Campbell, and Joe Caramagna, The Ghost, piloted by Hera Syndulla, can be spotted chasing down TIE Fighters as the Battle of Jakku rages on.

In the previous issue, Last Stand #3, Phoenix Squadron was mentioned as part of the final battle. Phoenix Squadron made their first appearance in Star Wars Rebels as one of the Rebellion's earliest cells. These two Rebels references provide the perfect epilogue for the animated series.

Star Wars Confirms Hera Fought from the Beginning of the Rebellion to the End

Hera Syndulla Started With Humble Beginnings But Became a Great General

Hera Syndulla was born to General Cham Syndulla and, as a child, witnessed the destruction that the Clone Wars brought first hand. When the Empire took over and conquered her homeworld, Hera became a pilot and escaped Ryloth. Hera built her own Rebel cell, starting with her droid Chopper and her lover Kanan Jarrus. Hera's crew eventually grew, and she caught the attention of Bail Organa, who was gathering Rebel cells together. Joining the larger Rebellion, Hera became Phoenix Leader of Phoenix Squadron. The Phoenix Cell went on to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn under Hera's leadership.

Fans of the animated series will be happy to see Hera finally achieve what she started fighting for all those years ago, even if it's just in the form of a glimpse of the Ghost.

Hera Syndulla was present at many other battles of galactic importance, such as Scarif, Hoth, Endor, and Jakku. As the Phoenix Cell merged with the larger rebellion, Hera became a great general. During the Battle of Jakku, Hera served aboard a Star Destroyer called Deliverance as she led Alphabet Squadron and escorted ground forces to the surface. Deliverance was eventually destroyed by a TIE Bomber, but Hera bordered the Ghost and continued to fight. As Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Last Stand shows, she fought to the very end of the conflict.

The Battle of Jakku Works as a Perfect Epilogue for Hera Syndulla

Though Hera Syndulla was no longer Phoenix Leader, and wasn't leading Phoenix Squadron during the Battle of Jakku, fans get the satisfaction of knowing that Hera got to fly alongside her first squadron during the final fight against the Empire. Indeed, the Ghost has been seen in the background of many major battles since Star Wars Rebels. The Ghost was present at the Battle of Scarif, and now the Battle of Jakku. The crew of the Ghost have all gone their separate ways, but it's nice to imagine Hera's new co-pilot (her son Jacen Syndulla) whenever the Ghost is seen on screen and on the page. Jacen is even probably the one flying the Ghost during the Battle of Exegol, carrying on his mother's legacy.

Star Wars Rebels acted as the beginning of the Rebellion, and the Battle of Jakku marks the end of their fight, finally meeting their goal. Fans of the animated series will be happy to see Hera finally achieve what she started fighting for all those years ago, even if it's just in the form of a glimpse of the Ghost during Star Wars' deciding battle between the stricken Empire and the triumphant Rebellion.
