Sister Wives: Signs Kody's Ego's Still Out Of Control Amid Coyote Pass Drama, "Missing Older Kids" Comment & Janelle's Detox

Sister Wivespatriarch Kody Brown’s ego has spiraled out of control amid some recent scandals, including drama with the family’s land Coyote Pass, his comments about his older kids, and his ex-wife’s recent negativity detox. In recent months, Kody’s life has changed once again, this time even more against his will than in the past. Throughout the run of Sister Wives season 19, Kody’s struggled to keep his head up as he’s moved through the drama he’s brought onto his one-time-plural family. While his only remaining wife Robyn Brown is standing by his side, Kody has very little other support.

Throughout the last few years, Kody’s life has been turned upside down entirely. While he’s been anticipating change for years, he never expected that his marriages would come to an end in the way they did. It’s possible Kody had little to no feeling that his wives would leave him, especially not all of the original trio of wives he married in the 1990s. After meeting and falling in love with Robyn, it was clear to Kody’s original wives that his affection was different for each of them, which likely changed their perception of him as their separate relationships crumbled.

Throughout the last several years, Sister Wives patriarch Kody shared that he was considering selling Coyote Pass, the land he’d purchased with his wife and ex-wives prior to the drama in their marriage. While Kody was hopeful he’d be building on that land with each of his wives in order to better serve his plural marriage and spend a more equal amount of time with each of his families, things changed when his marriages went downhill. Kody purchased the land with specific ideas for the build, and his wives had the opportunity to work within the confines of his plans.

While things have been going off the rails with Coyote Pass for years on Sister Wives, ever since Kody’s marriages to Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown have gone south, it’s been clear that the land isn’t going to be utilized in the way Kody had hoped. Kody was ready to prioritize each of his wives differently, but after Christine left her marriage with Kody during Sister Wives season 17, followed by both Janelle and Meri during Sister Wives season 18, his plans were dashed. Kody had to reconsider his options surrounding Coyote Pass, especially surrounding the land’s division.

Christine allowed Kody to buy her out of the Coyote Pass land quickly, but things haven’t been as easy with Janelle or Meri. Despite the fact that Christine was quick to let her piece of Coyote Pass go, Janelle and Meri weren’t as certain about what they wanted to do with their land. Kody’s been struggling throughout the decision-making process, as he hasn’t been clear about what he actually wants. Refusing to believe that Janelle or Meri are actually leaving, his decisions surrounding how to sell the land, how to split the assets, and what everyone deserves have been difficult.

Kody Misses His Older Kids' Love

He Doesn’t Actually Miss His Older Kids

As Kody has moved through the difficulties surrounding the family home, he’s also been dealing with some issues with his older kids that have left him feeling abandoned. Kody’s older children, who belong to his original trio of wives, have been shifting in their relationships with their father throughout the last several years. While Kody’s kids with Robyn, three of whom are adopted into the family from her previous marriage, have been Kody’s priority since their younger years. After joining the family, Robyn and Kody had two kids of their own, giving them five kids that he was focused on.

While Kody already had 13 children prior to Robyn joining the family, it was clear from early on that his kids with Robyn were going to be the ones he spent the most time with and cared for above others. These relationships with the kids from his other marriages, all of whom were looking for their father to show interest in their lives, quickly became ones Kody pushed to the side. Ignoring the fact that his kids were hopeful for relationships, Kody continually declined to show up, but now that they’re adults, he’s confused about their distinct lack of interest.

The majority of Kody’s older kids don’t want a relationship with their father and have found it difficult to try and bridge the gap of their expectations of their father versus the reality of who he is. Kody still expects his older kids to make an effort in their relationships. Ignoring the fact that his older kids aren’t getting anything from a relationship with him because of his stringent, strict rules, Kody’s been clear that he wants the kids to come to him to resolve any issues. He’s shared he misses their love, but doesn’t appear to actually miss them.

Janelle Needs To Detox To Recover From Polygamy

Kody’s Spiraling About Her Changing

Although Kody’s relationship with Meri was one he was likely anticipating an endpoint for, his marriage to Janelle was one he was sure wouldn’t come to a close. Janelle’s relationship with Kody was interesting because their marriage did seem like a happier one to a point. While Kody and Janelle didn’t have the same outward romantic connection that he did with Robyn, it was clear Kody and Janelle cared for one another, had love for one another, and respected one another for many years. Their split wasn’t easy for Kody, who was shocked Janelle was really standing up for herself.

While Janelle was more passive in the past, when she and Kody had a massive fight at the beginning of Sister Wivesseason 18, she decided to make a major change. Janelle decided to leave Kody, and moving into 2025, announced she’ll be detoxing the negativity from her life. This, many Sister Wives viewers believe is more about changes to her daily life that will include talking about or discussing Kody in an unproductive way. While Janelle wants to be upfront with Kody about her feelings, though she doesn’t appear to be trying to come off harsh in her detox.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
