Pokémon TCG Pocket Adds Cresselia Ex & More Promo Cards In New Drop Event

Pokémon TCG Pocket's first promo event of the Space-Time Smackdown era is here, with players able to add a new Pokémon ex card as a reward. Last week, Pokémon TCG Pocket launched its newest expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, which added over 150 new cards to the game. Many of these cards are expected to be game-changers that add either brand-new decks to the game or strengthen existing decks in some way. Now, Pokémon TCG Pocket is starting to roll out new promo cards tied to the new set.

Starting today, Pokémon TCG Pocket is hosting a new Cresselia ex Drop Event. As with previous Drop Events, players compete in solo battles against an AI opponent to collect promo packs. Each promo pack contains one of five cards, including the new Cresselia ex card. Other cards in the Drop Event include Turtwig, Electivire, Misdreavus, and Skarmory. If the Drop Event follows previous trends, this event will be the only way to get the new Cresselia ex card. The event runs from today through February 17th.

Cresselia Ex's Abilities Explained In Pokémon TCG Pocket

Cresselia Ex Is a New Psychic-Type Pokémon Card

Cresselia ex is a new Basic Pokémon with 140 HP. It has a single attack - Psychic Flash, which deals 80 damage and requires two Psychic Energy and one Energy of any type to use. Cresselia ex also has the Lunar Plumage ability, which heals 20 damage from Cresselia whenever a Psychic Energy is attached from the Energy Zone. This ability stacks well with Gardevoir, which allows players to move an additional Psychic Energy from the Energy Zone onto a Psychic-type Pokémon in the Active Spot.

While Cresselia isn't strong enough to be the focus of its own deck, it may have some secondary use in Psychic-type decks. If players can get two Gardevoir in play, Cresselia can heal up to 60 HP per turn, which can negate a ton of damage from opposing Pokémon attacks. As a Basic Pokémon, Cresselia ex can be played right at the start of the game, with its healing ability able to negate some early damage until it can use attacks.

Our Take: New Event Is Scarily Similar To Lapras Ex

skarmory smackdown

Pokémon TCG Pocket's first Drop Event involved Lapras ex, a Water-type Pokémon with 140 HP and the ability to heal 20 damage whenever it used an attack. The resemblance between Cresselia ex and Lapras ex is uncanny, to the point where it simply can't be a coincidence.

While I'd personally like to see a stronger Pokémon card for these kinds of events, I understand why the Pokémon TCG Pocketdevs would be reluctant. After all, the game's developers likely don't want to insert a meta-defining card during a limited-time event in which you're not guaranteed to pull the card from packs.
