Pixar's First Big Project Of 2025 Is Now Streaming On Disney+, And It Marks A Milestone For The Studio
After a massive 2024, Pixar is celebrating its first major release of the year with Win or Lose, a brand new animated show on Disney+. Last year was all about the Inside Out franchise for Pixar, and the focus on that world ultimately paid off. Inside Out 2 broke several box office records before going on to become the highest-grossing movie of 2024 and Pixar's highest-grossing movie in history. Following Inside Out 2's July release, Disney+ debuted Dream Productions, an animated spinoff set between the events of both Inside Out movies.
Though Pixar set the bar even higher with its 2024 releases, the 2025 slate doesn't look too shabby. Pixar's upcoming movies give us a lot to look forward to in the years to come, but 2025 will see the arrival of Elio. The original movie, which was first announced back in 2022, follows a young boy with a fascination for space who accidentally becomes Earth's ambassador within an interplanetary council full of different alien species. Elio is set to release in June 2025, but thankfully, Disney+ has another worthwhile project to focus on until then.
Pixar's Win Or Lose Is Now Streaming On Disney+ - What The Show Is About
Win Or Lose Will Consist Of 8 Total Episodes On Disney+
Before Elio hits theaters this summer, Pixar fans should check out Win or Lose, now available to stream on Disney+. The series, which currently has 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, debuted on February 19, 2025, with two episodes. The eight-episode show will continue to release two weekly episodes on Wednesdays through March 12. As for the actual show, Win or Lose follows a co-ed softball team called the Pickles as they prepare for their big championship game. Rather than focus on the group of characters all at once, each episode will center on one Win or Lose character from their perspective.

Win Or Lose Review: I'm Thrilled Pixar Is Embracing Its Origins In An Emotional & Innovative Original Series That Challenges Kids
Win or Lose greatly benefits from its diverse tapestry and stories. It feels real and genuine in its attempts to illustrate a close-knit community.
From young players and coaches to family members, Win or Lose will give each core figure a chance to show their side of the same week-long event. In doing so, certain aspects of each character's story will become intertwined before coming together in the end. As for those voicing Win or Lose's characters, some notable names include Will Forte, Lil Rey Howry, Rosa Salazar, Flula Borg, and Rhea Seehorn.
Win Or Lose Is Pixar's First TV Show Not Connected To An Existing Movie Series
Win Or Lose Marks A First For Pixar's TV Releases
Despite being announced in 2020 as part of Disney+'s exciting list of upcoming projects, Win or Lose took over four years to release. After various delays, the animated sports comedy was set to air in 2024, but it got bumped to 2025 after switching release dates with Dream Productions. Unlike Dream Productions, Win or Lose isn't linked to an existing show, movie, or film series from Pixar. In fact, the show is Pixar's first proper long-form TV series not connected to the company's existing IP since past releases have tied to Toy Story, Cars, Monsters, Inc., Up, and, of course, Inside Out.
Show | Franchise | Release |
---|---|---|
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command | Toy Story | 2000-2001 |
Car Toons | Cars | 2008-2014 |
Forky Asks a Question | Toy Story | 2019-2020 |
Monsters at Work | Monsters, Inc. | 2021-present |
Dug Days | Up | 2021-2023 |
Cars on the Road | Cars | 2022 |
Dream Productions | Inside Out | 2024 |
Win or Lose's original concept should appeal to those hoping that Pixar would lean away from sequels and the expansion of existing franchises. That said, Inside Out 2's success gives Pixar an undeniable justification to continue investing in sequel projects. Now that Inside Out 2 lost the title of the highest-grossing movie, Pixar may even aim higher with their film development. Following Elio, Pixar's upcoming releases include Hoppers, Toy Story 5, and Incredibles 3. Hopefully, the positive reception surrounding Win or Lose will mean Pixar doesn't lose sight of TV show projects.
