MANILA – The Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI) on Saturday announced the official lineup of athletes who will compete in the 47th Southeast Asia (SEA) Age Group Swimming Championships to be held June 19 to 29 in Singapore.
Leading the delegation is Jamesray Mishael Ajido, an incoming Grade 10 student from La Salle Green Hills after he registered personal best times of 55.40 seconds (100m butterfly), 25.37 (50m butterfly) and 24.13 (50 me freestyle) during the PAI tryouts in April.
Joining Ajido on the swimming roster are Albert Jose Amaro II, Ryian Zach Denzel Belen, Alexander Eichler, Ava Samantha Bautista, Kyle Louise Bulaga, Riannah Chantelle Coleman, FJ Catherine Cruz, Sophia Garra and Patricia Mae Santor.
"The tryouts were very challenging because I was competing against 18-year-old swimmers. But I thanked the Lord, I was able to hit two QTS (qualifying time standard)," the 16-year-old Ajido said.
He has qualified for the World Aquatics Junior Championships in Romania this August and the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in October.
Last year, Ajido won in the boys’ 12–14 100m butterfly at the 11th Asian Age Group Championships held at New Clark City Aquatics Center in Tarlac.
In artistic swimming, the Philippine team will be represented by Maddison Violet Durban, Zoe Lim and Antonia Lucia Raffaele.
The men’s water polo team will be composed of Elijah Caleb De Leon, Lance Edrick Adalin, Matthew Cameron Dasig, Julian Christi Malubag, Miel Joaquin Ugaban, Kenzzie Trey Dumanglas, Sebastien Albert Castro, Niklas Joaquin De Guzman, Matthew Vincent Romero, Joaquin Federico Mirasol, Alexandre Gabriel, Dave Russel Geda and Sean Gabriel Enero.
Ferdinand Quilop will serve as head of the delegation, which includes coaches Ramil Lustre and Isagani Corpuz (swimming); Maria Graciella Jasmina Sanchez (artistic swimming); and Sherwin De La Paz and Filip Stojanovic (water polo).
"We would like to congratulate all the athletes for this event and extend our sincere appreciation to their coaches for their dedication and hard work. We encourage all participants to continue their preparation with focus and determination," PAI president Michael Angelo Vargas said in a statement. (PNA)
