Oscars 2025: Making The Case For Adrien Brody To Win Best Actor

After his extraordinary performance in The Brutalist, Adrien Brody has become the frontrunner to win Best Actor at the 2025 Academy Awards. The story of The Brutalist follows an architect, László Tóth, who survives the Holocaust and immigrates to the United States to start a new life in Pennsylvania. Throughout the movie, László begins work on the ambitious dream project of a rich businessman, all while getting used to life in America and working on his marriage. In addition to Brody, the cast of The Brutalist includes Felicity Jones, Guy Pierce, Joe Alwyn, and Raffey Cassidy.

Reviews for The Brutalist have been outstanding, and the film currently has a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (via Rotten Tomatoes). In addition to Brody's Best Actor Oscar nomination, The Brutalist was nominated for 9 other Academy Awards, including Best Directing and Best Picture. The Brutalist's 10 Academy Award nominations prove that it will be a force to be reckoned with come Oscar night. However, out of all the awards it is nominated for, it is most clear that Adrien Brody deserves to win the Oscar for Best Actor.

Adrien Brody Gives One Of The Best Performances Of His Career In The Brutalist

Adrien Brody Commands The Screen In The Brutalist

In The Brutalist, Brody plays a character who is haunted by the horrors of World War II, but also feels like he isn't wanted in America in the aftermath of the war. Therefore, Brody was tasked with portraying a character who is angry about both his past and his present. László Tóth is a talented architect and is appreciated by characters like Harrison (Pierce), especially early in the film. However, Brody masterfully portrays a subtle anger within László that is present throughout the entire movie.

In The Brutalist, Brody gets the opportunity to have a few very dramatic moments, but also perfectly executes the subtle details that are so essential to the character. Therefore, László Tóth is one of, if not the best, roles of Brody's career. Brody is perhaps best known for his work in The Pianist and several Wes Anderson movies, such as The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Asteroid City. Brody is great in every movie he appears in, but The Brutalist stands out as a high point in his career.

How Adrien Brody Has Performed At Oscars Precursors

Brody Has Already Won Awards For His Role In The Brutalist

The Brutalist has been one of the standout movies during awards season. It has the second-highest number of nominations at the Academy Awards, and is also being honored at every other major awards ceremony. Brody, in particular, has already won a Golden Globe in the Best Actor - Drama category for his role in The Brutalist. In addition to the Academy Awards, Brody is also nominated for every other upcoming major awards ceremony, such as the Critics Choice Awards and the British Academy Film Awards.

There's a strong chance Brody will find success at several upcoming awards ceremonies before the Academy Awards. At the Golden Globes, he beat out actors like Timothée Chalamet, Ralph Fiennes, Colman Domingo, and Sebastian Stan to win the Best Actor - Drama award. These are the four nominees he is up against for the Oscar, so it would not be surprising at all if he beats them once again at the Academy Awards, which will be held on March 2, 2025.

Adrien Brody Is The Only Previous Oscar Winner In Best Actor

Brody Won An Oscar For The Pianist

In addition to currently being the favorite to win the Best Picture Oscar, Brody also stands out among his fellow nominees since he is the only one who has previously won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Brody won the Best Actor Oscar for his 2002 film The Pianist, in which he plays Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jewish piano player who tries to survive during World War II. With his previous win, Brody actually became the youngest person to ever win Best Actor at the Oscars.

If Brody wins the Oscar for his role in The Brutalist, he would be two for two at the Academy Awards.

Therefore, it would be great to see Brody win a Best Actor Academy Award again many years after his previous historic win. Brody's recent nomination is actually only the second time he has been nominated for an Academy Award. This means that if Brody wins the Oscar for his role in The Brutalist, he would be two for two at the Academy Awards. This would be an amazing achievement and would make his win even more special. Therefore, out of all the nominees, it would be the most satisfying to see Brody win yet another Academy Award.

A24's Recent Success In Best Actor Could Help Adrien Brody

A24 Has Found Much Success At The Academy Awards In Recent Years

A decade ago, A24 was not a well known production company. However, A24 is now one of the most notable studios in Hollywood and has garnered a reputation for putting out the highest quality movies. A24 has produced critically-acclaimed movies such as Moonlight, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Past Lives. These movies, in addition to plenty of other A24 films, have found great success at the Oscars. This suggests that The Brutalist could be the newest A24 movie to win multiple Academy Awards.

In fact, an actor in an A24 movie won the Oscar for Best Actor just two years ago. After his emotional performance in The Whale, Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar at the 2023 Academy Awards. A24 successfully campaigned for Fraser to win Best Actor, which proves that they can do it again with Brody. Brody is already the frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar, so A24 just needs to make sure members of the Academy are convinced that he gave the best performance of 2024.

Why Adrien Brody Should Win Best Actor At The Oscars

Brody Should Become A Two-Time Oscar Winner

All the actors nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards delivered exceptional performances, but Brody's portrayal of László Tóth in The Brutalist stands out the most. Even though The Brutalist is completely fictionalized, László Tóth truly feels like a real-life person who lived during the 1900s. This is due to Brody's complex performance. Therefore, it is clear that Brody should win Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist at the 2025 Academy Awards.
