New D&D Game With The Voice Talent Of Michael Dorn, Matt Mercer, & Gerard Way Takes It Back To The 80s

A new Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine is coming out this year, featuring an epic voice cast and tons of amazing nods to the popular tabletop franchise. Dungeons & Dragons has had a massive 50th anniversary, with multiple brand crossovers and a new set of rulebooks that made massive revisions to the current Fifth Edition rules. D&D's anniversary celebrations are spilling into 2025, with the release of a new Monster Manualdue out in February and several other big plans teased as well.

Stern Pinball, a maker of licensed pinball games, has announced Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye, a new pinball machine coming out this year. The game features an animatronic mech red dragon and the voice talents of Michael Dorn, Kevin Smith, Luke Gygax, Chris Prynoski, Brendon Small, Gerard Way, Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray. The game also features a campaign storyline with character creation, items that can be unlocked or purchased with gold, and a branching storyline. Characters will also face classic D&D monsters like owlbears, mimics, and even a gelatinous cube that traps pinballs using magnets.

What Is Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye?

New Pinball Machine Features Mechanical Dragon Head, Gelatinous Cube

The Tyrant's Eye isn't the first pinball machine to be released with a Dungeons & Dragons theme. Bally Manufacturing released a Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine back in 1987, complete with Larry Elmore art pulled from the Red Box. However, the new Tyrant's Eye comes with several new features in addition to standard pinball offerings like ramps, targets, and bumpers. For one, the game utilizes a save function via Stern's Insider Connected system that allows a player to continue their campaign, using the same character and unlocking new choices and features as they progress through the campaign.

Tyrant's Eye also features a new storyline, featuring Tiamat the Dragon Queen trying to escape her abyssal prison. Players will also face off against Xanathar the beholder and Sammaster the lich, along with Rath the Ruthless, the red dragon that appears in the pinball machine. Rath the Ruthless is voiced by Dorn and shoots multiple pinballs at players when enraged. The Tyrant's Eye will be released with three different versions, with prices varying between $6,999 and $12,999 depending on the edition.

Our Take: Pinball Wizard Subclass When?

New Pinball Machine Seems Like Worthy Representation Of D&D

Pinball machines are getting more and more impressive, and this Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine looks absolutely amazing. I love that players can play through a campaign narrated by Matt Mercer, featuring voices by Critical Role cast members and other D&D luminaries.

The ability to save your character and continuously play through a campaign seems like a pretty cool feature. It does seem like Dungeons & Dragons is growing more and more as a brand while the game itself isn't growing at nearly the same pace, although that could change as Wizards starts rolling out its 2025 slate of books.
