Like It or Not, Dragon Ball Super's Return Changes the Canon You've Come to Know
Dragon Ball Super’s latest entry, chapter #104, proved an amazing way for this beloved series to return after its extended hiatus. The short but significant adventure of Trunks and Goten as they discover themselves as superheroes was entertaining and inspiring for many fans.
While the chapter is undoubtedly an amazing continuation of the manga, it does include several details that completely alter the story of the series as fans know it.
At various points in the story, depictions of characters from the Dragon Ball anime's filler episodes can be seen. This implies that, against all odds, many of the non-canon episodes of the show could be considered a part of the official manga timeline. If this will lead to the introduction of "filler" character to canon is still unknown, but it was still a very nice nod to longtime fans of the franchise.
Dragon Ball Super Made Filler Characters Canon
From Other World Fighters To One-Time Opponents
During chapter #104 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, Trunks and his class go on an excursion to the museum of Earth’s heroes. In this place, the brave warriors who risked their lives protecting the planet were immortalized as statues, so the citizens of Satan City could pay their respects. Some of the franchise’s most powerful warriors were included in the collection, such as Goku and Gohan, something all fans expected considering the many times they have saved the world from certain doom. Nonetheless, what caught fans’ attention was the inclusion of several anime-only characters.
Lining the walls of the museum were statues of various fighters whom Goku met during the Other World martial arts tournament. This arc, which proves not all fillers are bad, was always a point of contention among fans, as it was created exclusively for the anime series. As such, fighters like Olibu, who can be seen in the museum, were never considered as part of the overall canon of the franchise. Still, the fact that him, as well as other supporting human characters, are considered heroes of Earth, could imply that this arc is considered official by the manga.

Dragon Ball Super’s New Chapter Just Fixed Super Hero in the Best Possible Way
Dragon Ball Super returns with a special chapter that highlights the origins of Goten and Trunks' superhero personas, offering insight into the movie.
Ikose and Idasa, the fighters who fought against Trunks and Goten during the junior division 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, one of the best competitions in the series, were also seen at the ending of the chapter. These youngsters, although already canon to the manga, had not been seen in several decades. Including them as part of a chapter focused on Goten and Trunks’ development served as a loving tribute to the original manga. Chapter #104 also proves that losing against the half-Saiyans motivated them to become better, as they can be seen training.
The Other World Arc Could Become Canon
Pikkon Is Closer Than Ever To Becoming Official
One of the reasons why Dragon Ball fans became so excited about the introduction of Other World characters to the manga is because this could lead to the inclusion of a fan-favorite fighter: Pikkon. He was one of Goku’s biggest allies and rivals during his time in the Other World, and even helped him fight Janenba in the final Dragon Ball Z movie. He is a strong and confident fighter whom fans have asked for years to become canon. This might soon become a reality since the Other World arc might have been confirmed as an official part of the manga series.
Dragon Ball Super chapter #104 has been an overall positive and entertaining experience for fans across the globe. Including forgotten but cherished characters like Olibu is just another proof of the level of care and love that goes into the series.
