It May Sound Wild, But One-Punch Man's Artist Needs Their Own Iron Man Series ASAP

One-Punch Man's creator, Yusuke Murata, just demonstrated that he would be an amazing illustrator for a new Marvel Iron Man series. Comics and manga have always shared a fun dynamic of mutual inspiration, and manga artists like Murata continually create incredible works of art that depict superheroes with that iconic manga flare.

On X, a One-Punch Man fan account shared one of Murata’s illustrations, which depicts his interpretation of Marvel’s Iron Man. The Iron Man portrait is a close-up of Tony Stark in his classic suit, taking off his mask. The art showcases a vibrant iteration of Iron Man’s mech suit with an incredible amount of detailing that encapsulates Tony Stark’s high-tech superhero design and his powerful yet confident personality.

The piece does a wonderful job of capturing the essence of Iron Man and shows off Murata’s talents, which were also apparent in previous designs for characters in Capcom, Mega Man, and One-Punch Man.

One-Punch Man Artist Showcases His Marvel Illustration

Iron Man Has Never Looked Better

Murata is known for his art in the popular manga and later anime series, One-Punch Man, but Murata has also created many other memorable manga, such as the famous American football manga, Eyeshield 21. Murata has also previously partnered with Marvel to create several stunning variant covers, specifically for Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #4, and illustrations for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, showing his art style is very compelling within the world of Marvel Comics. Iron Man is one of Marvel’s biggest heroes, and Tony Stark has never looked better as he is depicted in Murata’s art style.

Stark’s cockiness, which is so often the highlight of his character, is displayed in his simple yet effective expression in Murata’s illustration.

Tony Stark is known for his advanced suits of armor with their sleek red and gold color scheme and portrayal of cutting-edge technology, and Murata’s art goes above and beyond to make these aspects of Iron Man stand out. Stark’s cockiness, which is so often the highlight of his character, is displayed in his simple yet effective expression in Murata’s illustration. The new takes on Stark’s mech suits, such as Iron Man’s mask piece containing mini rocket thrusters, still have a very "Iron Man" aesthetic while also adding a uniquely manga-inspired look.

Marvel Needs to Give Iron Man Some Manga-Inspired Flare

Marvel Comics and Manga Are a Perfect Pairing

Murata's character illustrations are incredibly elegant, but they also portray a particular fluidity that is often depicted in manga while sometimes neglected in Western comics. Many Marvel comic books are inspired by manga and have also gotten shonen or shojo-style redesigns, such as in Ultimate X-Men by Peach Momoko. Iron Man in particular translates very well to manga, as his advanced suit designs take inspiration from the Japanese mecha genre, and Murata highlights how well Tony Stark’s hero design looks in a style akin to a One-Puch Man cover.

One-Punch Man is a superhero manga with incredibly unique characters that exude power and personality - which can also be said of Tony Stark and his hero persona, Iron Man. It makes sense that Iron Man would look incredible in the One-Punch Man art style, especially when considering Tony Stark’s various mech-inspired designs. Murata’s art style makes him a great candidate to pioneer an Iron Man series, as his previous works - especially One-Punch Man - illustrate an understanding of unique character design, and his Iron Man art is no exception.
