Invincible's Dupli-Kate & Multi-Paul Foreshadow What Happens To Mark & Oliver After Season 3
The following contains spoilers for Invincible season 3 episode 5, "This Was Supposed To Be Easy," now streaming on Prime VideoInvincible gives Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul an engaging relationship in season 3 that could be seen as foreshadowing for a major turn between Mark and his brother Oliver. While Invincible largely focuses on the titular superhero, the extensive cast of superheroes and supervillains within the animated show have also been getting plenty of focus in season 3. Among Invincible season 3's new characters are Multi-Paul, a dangerous assassin played by Simu Liu.
The brother of the superheroic Dupli-Kate, Invincible's Mult-Paul established himself as a threat in the first episode of the season when his sudden attack on Rex almost got the hero killed. Paul remains a lingering thread for much of the season up until the events of Invincible season 3 episode 5, "This Was Supposed To Be Easy," which highlights the lengths he'll go to for the Order. This raises some questions about if redemption is possible for Paul, which plays into the overarching themes of the show as a whole.
Dupli-Kate & Multi-Paul's Sibling Relationship Foreshadows Mark & Oliver In The Future
Oliver Will Eventually (Appear) To Become A Threat, Much Like Multi-Paul
Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul's struggles to connect as siblings on opposite sides of the law foreshadows a major turn for Mark and his brother Oliver in future storylines from Invincible. As established across season 3, Invincible's version of Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul are at odds over their respective places in the world. While Kate has found purpose as a superhero and happiness with the Immortal, Paul has instead used his skills to become a major agent for the criminal Order. Their confrontations in season 3 highlight how they may still love one another, but their contrasting allegiances cause drama between them.
In the original comics that inspired Invincible, a grown Oliver initially seems to side with the Viltrumites over his connections to Mark and Earth.
This is a dynamic that Invincible will likely explore in future seasons during the Viltrumite War storyline. In the original comics that inspired Invincible, a grown Oliver initially seems to side with the Viltrumites over his connections to Mark and Earth. Despite their love for one another, the brothers end up on opposing sides of the conflict. However, a major twist reveals that Oliver has been playing up that betrayal as part of a plan to spy on the Viltrumites for Allen, which leads to tragic consequences. Tensions have already flared between the brothers, which could accelerate in future seasons.
Can Multi-Paul Still Be Redeemed In Invincible?
How Multi-Paul Could Connect To Invincible's Central Theme
Looking to the original comics, Multi-Paul never really gets a redemption arc. He remains an ally of the Order, even helping them stage a global attack in the Invincible spin-off comic Guarding the Globe. However, the animated show has been making some deviations from the original canon, such as reimagining Shirnking Rae as a woman or speeding up certain plotlines. It's possible that Invincible changes the importance of the Order in the grand scheme of things and brings back Multi-Paul for future storylines that force him to confront his darker actions and his relationship to his sister.

After The Penguin & Kingpin, Invincible Season 3's Take On A Classic Superhero Trope Is My Favorite
Invincibles' take on the "super-powered crime boss" archetype is one of the best versions of it in recent memory and adds some unique depth to it.
At first glance, it doesn't appear that Paul wants to be redeemed. As opposed to characters like Nolan and Darkwing, who openly admit their previous mistakes and openly hope they can make up for their past crimes, Paul shows no remorse over his actions as the Order's assassin. It may even be more useful to keep him as a villain, highlighting how redemption has to be chosen and embraced instead of being simply given. Invincible could still surprise audiences with Multi-Paul, however, and subvert his original role in the comics.
