Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10 Made Jay & Sam's Isaac Problem More Complicated Than It Needed To Be

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner.”

Although Ghosts season 4, episode 10 did see Jay and Sam eventually solve the problem of their silent partner, the sitcom couple ignored an obvious solution to the issue. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts provide most of the hit sitcom’s antics, but Rose McIver’s Sam and Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay are no slouches. The two living residents of the Woodstone B&B often cause almost as many problems as the ghosts do and many of the pair’s wildest misadventures have been their own fault.

While Jay seeing the ghosts in season 4 wasn’t helped by Pete hijacking his body, Pete only gained control of Jay in the first place because Sam and Jay electrocuted themselves while trying to fix a broken heater. If the pair had accepted that they didn’t know how to fix the heater and sought professional help, Jay would never have been possessed by Pete and Sam wouldn’t have been possessed by Nancy. Another example of the pair making life harder for themselves came in season 4, episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner.”

Sam & Jay Could Have Simply Used Bela To Explain Their Silent Partner Dilemma In Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10

Jay’s Sister Was A Much More Obvious Scapegoat

In “The Not-So-Silent Partner,” Mark understandably becomes frustrated when Isaac rejects a twelfth set of tiles for the restaurant. Mark demands to meet the so-called “Silent partner” Jay and Sam are constantly in contact with, prompting Sam to hire Kelsey, the con artist from season 2’s finale “The Heir,” to pose as the couple’s picky business associate. This inevitably gets out of control when Kelsey, being a con artist, cons Mark out of thousands of dollars before leaving. Sam and Jay retrieve the money but are forced to inform Mark that Kelsey wasn’t the real silent partner.

The need for a fictitious silent partner became irrelevant by the end of the episode as Isaac stepped aside and admitted that he had been micromanaging.

Scrambling for a new cover story, Sam claims Jay’s father, Mahesh, is the silent partner and even Jay doesn’t know. However, Ghosts season 4’s supporting star Bela would have been a much better cover story for the pair, since she actually knows about the ghosts and could have given voice to Isaac’s concerns as a result. As it happened, the need for a fictitious silent partner became irrelevant by the end of the episode as Isaac stepped aside and admitted that he had been micromanaging. That said, this didn't make the plot any less frustrating.

Why Bela Would Have Been A Better Silent Partner Proxy For Isaac

Bela Already Knows About The Woodstone Mansion’s Ghosts

Mark wouldn't have doubted that Bela was the silent partner since she is part of Jay's family and, since she knows all about the ghosts, it would have been easy to get Bela to play along. Moreover, Jay’s Ghosts season 4 Christmas special subplot saw him finally bond with his father over his dream of opening a restaurant. Now, Mark is going to think that Mahesh not only bankrolled the place but did so behind Jay’s back.

Jay's lies to his best friend make both Sam and Mahesh look bad, and this has real consequences for the restaurant. Mark now believes himself to be financially invested in a venture with two partners who are willing to lie to him and Jay. Simply claiming that Bela was the silent partner, and she didn’t want anyone to know, would have allowed the characters to sidestep the entire drama. This makes Ghosts season 4, episode 10’s plot feel more than a little redundant.
