Dragon Ball Owes Us a Better Gohan x Trunks Fusion, And We Can Prove It

One of the most unique and beloved skills in the Dragon Ball universe is the Fusion, a special technique that allows two warriors to merge into one, creating a fighter of unmatched power. Woefully, the main series has often neglected this technique, with only a handful of canon fusions having been introduced to the series.

However, this has not prevented fans, and even other manga authors, from wondering what certain combinations of characters would look like. Such an example is the stunning illustration published by the artist @DBSKAKERU1. He recently recreated the fusion between Gohan and Trunks originally created by Kentaro Yabuki, the creator of one of the best gender bender manga, Ayakashi Triangle, back in 1995.

Gohanks Has Never Looked Better

Dragon Ball Fan Artist Gave an Epic Redesign to This Amazing Fusion

DBSKAKERU1, one of the most popular fan artists in the Dragon Ball community, recently took it upon his hands to give the fandom the fusion between Trunks and Gohan they had been waiting for: Gohanks. This imposing warrior brings out the best traits of each of his components, blending perfectly the designs of Gohan and Trunks, considered by many as some of the best in the series. The clothes of these powerful fighters are combined into a stylish yet versatile outfit, resembling Trunk’s clothes but with Gohan’s signature colors elevating the design, perfectly adorned by a pair of Potara earrings.

Gohanks’ features greatly resemble Goku’s son, with black spiky hair adorning the top of his head and eyes that transmit a fierce determination. Nonetheless, Trunks’ personality can be observed in the illustration, as the pose this fused fighter has adapted is almost identical to his iconic battle stance. The artist made sure to include a sharp blade for Gohanks to take down his enemies with a weapon. DBSKAKERU1 created a warrior that honors the legacy of Gohan and Trunks while maintaining the traits that make them so beloved.

The Origin of This Version of Gohanks

Yabuki’s Design Has Impressed Dragon Ball Fans for Decades

In 1995, as a part of a competition held by the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Yabuki, who would later become one of the most famous manga authors in the world, submitted an original Dragon Ball character. His astonishing creation was the hypothetical fusion between Gohan and his pupil, Future Trunks. The character was so well-designed that it was awarded the magazine’s Cool Prize. Years later, this warrior would be made canon in a slightly different way, with the official version of Gohan and Trunk’s fusion being featured in the Dragon Ball Heroes spin-off.

While the canon Gohanks’ is beloved by many fans, not everyone was convinced by his design, as the character’s looks seldom resemble the warriors who created him. Another important distinction is that the canon combined warrior was created via the iconic Fusion Dance, making his power level significantly lower than his non-official counterpart. Both versions of Gohanks have become important and cherished parts of this beloved franchise. Still, most fans who have seen the image agree that Yabuki and DBSKAKERU1’s version better honors the amazing characters who brought it to life.

The fusion technique will continue to be one of Dragon Ball’s most interesting traits. As long as the series remains relevant, fans will always wonder what their favorite characters combined would look like. This is a massive win for the community, and hopefully an official version of Gohanks will make its appearance in the Dragon Ball canon soon.
