Deadpool Meets the Punisher: Carnage's Next Host Has Me More Hyped Than Ever Before
arning: Contains SPOILERS for Eddie Brock: Carnage #1! At the moment, Carnage is between hosts, leading fans to assume that anyone could be the next Carnage - even the likes of Deadpool or the Punisher. However, the choice for Carnage’s next host is a bit less random than that, as the psychotic symbiote himself actually selected a few potential candidates. And, as if this person has a giant “pick me” sign on him, one of these characters easily stands out from the rest as the person Marvel will most likely make the next Carnage - and, honestly, I’m stoked.
In Eddie Brock: Carnage #1 by Charles Soule and Jesús Saiz, Eddie Brock has become Carnage’s temporary host - and he couldn’t be more miserable. While the two have decided to make the most of their crappy situation by agreeing to hunt down and murder serial killers Dexter-style, Carnage quickly takes things too far. Eddie confronts Carnage in their shared mindscape, where their conversation quickly turns to who they’re going after next.
As Carnage explains, he hasn’t just agreed to help Eddie rid the world of serial killers for the sake of his own insatiable bloodlust. He’s also scouting his next host. When Carnage finds a murderer that he likes, he’ll either not kill them, or simply possess and revive their corpse at a later date. So far, Carnage hasn’t found anyone he likes, but he does have a few people in mind. Among them are Hela, Phoenix, Silver Surfer, and Galactus - you know, characters who will never be Carnage. But then, there’s someone who would be the perfect choice: Foolkiller.
Foolkiller Could Be the Next Carnage, & That Would Be PERFECT
Carnage & Foolkiller Would Be a Match Made in Heaven (or, Hell)
The version of Foolkiller Carnage is interested in is actually the second incarnation of Foolkiller named Greg Sallinger, who picked up the mantle from the original Foolkiller, Ross Everbest. Everbest’s Foolkiller was a religious zealot who wore a Zoro-esque outfit, murdering those he believed were sinful - which, in his mind, made them ‘fools’. Sallinger’s Foolkiller, however, isn’t bound by religious extremism, as he simply murders those who he believes lack “poetry in their soul”. In other words, Sallinger’s interpretation of what constitutes a ‘fool’ is pretty open to interpretation - and possibly influence.
If Carnage slithers into Foolkiller’s mind, offering him untold power and the ability to kill as many people as he likes in ways he never imagined, then it’s possible that Carnage could influence Foolkiller’s targets, allowing Carnage to unleash widespread chaos. Interestingly, however, the opposite could be true. Remember, Foolkiller is a genius, and his dedication to his sinister mission is unwavering and obsessive. In other words, Foolkiller isn’t weak-minded, and could actually bend Carnage to his will, not the other way around.

Marvel's New Carnage Is Now a Hero But In the Darkest Way Possible: "Kill Someone"
Eddie Brock’s new team-up with Carnage sets the unlikely symbiotic duo on a heroic new mission - but Carnage still gets to let its violent ways loose.
Foolkiller doesn’t want to simply kill an entire town, or murder every passenger on a random plane the way Carnage does. Foolkiller chooses his victims deliberately, and he revels in each individual kill. Carnage, on the other hand, just wants to slaughter anyone and everyone he sees, and he has the power to do it. An ideal host would share Carnage’s love of, well, carnage, but Foolkiller could offer Carnage something he doesn’t know he needs: focus. Indeed, with Foolkiller, Carnage could become the most terrifying serial killer in Marvel history, not just a wild animal that regularly needs to be put down.
Foolkiller Would Be Great, but I Kind of Like Another Host for Carnage: Eddie Brock
A Part of Me Hopes Eddie Brock and Carnage Stay Together
Foolkiller would be an awesome choice for Carnage’s next host, as they would compliment each other perfectly. That being said, I can’t help but wish that Carnage would just stay with his current host: Eddie Brock. These two only bonded because both of them were dying after sustaining serious injuries during the Venom War event. Now, they’re just biding time, waiting to recover enough to go their separate ways. Eddie is keeping Carnage occupied by hunting serial killers, and Carnage is shopping for his next host. But, honestly, I kind of just want them to stay together.
There’s a scene in this issue where Eddie is forcing Carnage to be a hero, and Carnage is absolutely freaking out, screaming at Eddie that he’s going to rip him to shreds for ‘sullying his reputation’ like this. It was fantastic! Eddie was the King in Black, after all, so if anyone can beat Carnage into submission, it’s him. Plus, I really like this ‘killing serial killers’ thing they’ve got going on. Sure, it’s been done to death, but in this case it really works.

I Love Carnage's New Look Because It Does Something Venom Never Could
Carnage just got a devilish redesign, and not only is it absolutely perfect, but it's made even better by the fact that Venom could never pull it off.
Of course, I know that Carnage and Eddie Brock can’t stay together, as both of their characters would have to fundamentally change for that relationship to work (but, hey, I can dream, can’t I?). With that in mind, and when considering all the options Carnage laid out - while taking into consideration the one Marvel will likely pick (because, duh) - Foolkiller is the perfect choice for Carnage’s next host, as that would be like the villainous equivalent of if Deadpool met the Punisher - and I am so here for it.
