Assassin's Creed Shadows Voice Actors On The "Multitudes" Of Naoe & Trophy Hunting Tricks

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will arrive next month, finally taking players to the Japanese setting they’ve long asked for. While many aspects of Shadow’s open world, like dynamic weather and detailed interactive environments, are exciting in their own right, perhaps the biggest draw of the title is its dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. One a light-footed, stealthy ninja, and the other a strong samurai who dives into battles head-first, the duo are perfect foils to one another when it comes to both gameplay and narrative.

Yasuke is based on a real person who served as a warrior under daimyo Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period, while Naoe is an original creation who is in fierce opposition to the aforementioned daimyo. The game’s cast features many talented voice actors, with the Japanese dub including actors like Miyuri Shimabukuro as Naoe and Mutsuki Iwanaka as Kumabe Ujiie. Shimabukuro is known for roles in anime like Hanebado! and games like Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland, while Iwanaka has played characters in anime like Negative Positive Angler, and has also earned every trophy in every Assassin’s Creed game.

While Assassin's Creed Shadows was in line with some of my expectations, a number of things managed to surprise me at the preview event.

ScreenRant interviewed Miyuri Shimabukuro and Mutsuki Iwanaka to discuss what drew Shimabukuro to the character of Naoe, the trophy hunting process, and where they'd like to journey next in an Assassin's Creed game.

Naoe's Multitudes In AC Shadows Drew Shimabukuro To The Role

Players Will Discover Multiple Sides To The Character As They Play Through

ScreenRant: What drew you to the role of Naoe?

Miyuri Shimabukuro: Naoe is focused on revenge, and is quite closed off. But with her friends, there are some scenes where you can see a glimpse of her pure personality. The way in which she contains multitudes is quite appealing to me.

The Inspiration & Challenges Of Iwanaka's AC Trophy Hunting

Specificity Makes Some Achievements More Difficult, But Also More Fun

ScreenRant: Mutsuki, did you go into Assassin’s Creed planning to get every trophy, or was it an idea that came to you as you were playing through?

Mutsuki Iwanaka: Since it’s a fun game, I wanted to keep playing and get trophies I didn’t get just during my normal playthrough. Those trophies are things like “throw sand at enemies and kill five of them,” or something similar. Those achievement trophies I go back and try to get. So basically it’s a mix – I get a bunch during my playthrough, and go back and get the rest. Since it’s a fun game, I want to go that far and get all the trophies.

ScreenRant: Are there any trophies you had trouble with?

Yes, of course. In Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, there was a multiplayer mode. Assassin’s Creed is typically only single player, so I had trouble getting trophies that involved playing multiplayer. And the trophies in the Valhalla DLC were also quite difficult to get. There was one that demanded you get gold medal in all missions, and that was tough.

Where Iwanaka Wants To See Assassin's Creed Go Next

How The Series Can Keep Its Stride After Shadows' Japanese Setting

ScreenRant: What time period/location would you like to visit next in an AC game?

Mustuki Iwanaka: To be honest, I am not a huge history buff. I actually got interested in history thanks to Assassin’s Creed. The series has covered the French Revolution, the English Industrial Revolution, and the American War for Independence—so it would be cool to cover a similar big event. But since there are so many instances like that throughout history, I cannot pin-point a specific one.
