A24’s Best Picture Contender Becomes Its 5th 2024 Movie To Pass A Key Global Box Office Milestone
A24 has become more and more of a powerhouse over the past few years. After the company launched in 2012 and released their first film in 2013, A24 saw its first Best Picture nomination for 2015's Room. Room was incredibly successful overall, winning multiple awards including an Oscar for Best Actress. The following year, the distributor ended up winning Best Picture for their breakthrough Barry Jenkins film Moonlight. A24 would see even more success several years later with Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won Best Picture and six other Oscars.
In addition to its awards clout, the studio has also been doing better at the box office. Everything Everywhere All At Once was the company's first movie to cross the coveted $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, but it managed to do it again last year with the critically acclaimed Civil War. Even if missing the $100 million threshold, several of their other films have achieved similarly impressive feats, including Talk to Me and Hereditary. Now, a new A24 film has done it all, by getting Oscar nominations and recently crossing a critical box office milestone.
The Brutalist Has Crossed $25 Million
It Is The 5th 2024 A24 Movie To Do So
The Brutalist has officially made it past the $25 million mark at the worldwide box office. The Adrien Brody-led film is about an architect and his wife who fled post-war Europe in 1947 to come to the United States. The critically acclaimed film is A24's Oscar darling this year, as it is nominated for 10 awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress. While The Brutalist has recently been the subject of controversy due to its use of AI, it is considered one of the frontrunners to win Best Picture this year at the March 2 ceremony.
Per The Numbers, The Brutalist has officially passed the $25 million mark at the worldwide box office. This total is composed of $13.7 million at the domestic box office and $11.4 million overseas, bringing it to a grand total of $25.2 million and counting. It is the fifth of A24's 2024 releases to make it past the $25 million threshold, joining a list that includes Civil War, Heretic, Babygirl, and We Live in Time.
Our Take On The Brutalist's Box Office Achievement
A24 Continues To Shine
The Brutalist's box office achievement is important on several levels. For one, its 3-hour and 34-minute runtime would normally prohibit a movie's theatrical success, but The Brutalist's rave reviews have proven it worthy of people's attention. Secondly, its feat is emblematic of how much of a powerhouse A24 has become in the industry. With five titles breaking $25 million in 2024 alone, A24 continues to be a force to be reckoned with.
