90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Veah Netherton has become quite a controversial name in the franchise following her season 7 debut with Sunny Mahdi. Veah is a 27-year-old woman from Florida who had met Sunny from South Africa on a dating app. Sunny and Veah were together for a year before she decided to go meet him in person. Both Veah and Sunny dreamed of a life together but hadn’t thought of the obstacles they’d have to face along the way. Sunny, who didn’t follow the rules of his own religion, expected Veah to convert.
Sunny and Veah had split up after the finale but got back together after a few weeks. Sunny had gotten engaged with Veah while promising her that he didn’t want her to convert. However, he secretly wished for her to accept Islam in the future, despite Veah’s stubbornness. Sunny and Veah have seemingly split again after filming the Tell All in October 2024. It could have happened after Veah fell sick considering she was going to have to fund Sunny’s K-1 visa and wanted to let her relationship issues take a back seat.

However, Veah could have told Rory that she had company when she came to meet him. The questionable move raised questions about the nature of Veah and Rory’s relationship and whether they were still involved with each other and possibly using Sunny for a storyline on the show.

Sunny eventually accepted Veah’s justification for bringing her ex along with her to Durban, and proposed to Veah, expressing that he was serious about spending the rest of his life with her. Sunny went against his family’s wishes to ask for Veah’s hand in marriage. Sunny’s father didn’t approve of Veah because of her tattoos and because she wasn’t ready to convert to Islam to marry Sunny. Sunny risked getting disowned by his father because of what he did. Instead of appreciating Sunny’s gutsy move, Veah humiliated him on social media after the episode aired.
Veah revealed that the ring Sunny bought for her was “very cheap” because he bought it with her money. “Cheap and affordable, I’m not complaining at all,” Veah added. She explained she did not know what Sunny was going to spend her money on. “I mean what money was he going to use?” she asked. Veah wrote that it was hard for Sunny to make money “in a country like that.” According to her, Sunny’s only source of income was “trading.” Sunny supposedly doesn’t get paid by his father at the shop.

In October 2024, Veah opened up about her weight loss. She revealed she now weighed 90 pounds and claimed it was due to a mystery illness following her South Africa trip. On the 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Tell All, Veah claimed that she had gallstones and hence, couldn’t attend the filming in person. However, after the show, Veah explained she had a brain tumor which was diagnosed even before she went to meet Sunny. Veah said she underwent lymphatic drainage which worsened her health. She said she suddenly had trouble swallowing and was spitting out blood.
Veah admitted that after seeing specialist after specialist, she'd made little progress with her condition. She confessed she’d given up on doctors and is now relying on the power of prayer to heal. Meanwhile, Veah’s 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days partner Sunny posted a cryptic Instagram Story implying that Veah is lying about being sick and will be starting a GoFundMe soon to get help with her treatment. Veah has denied these claims, saying her intention was never to launch a fundraiser but to get suggestions about doctors who’d help her heal.
