10 Pokémon TCG Trick Or Trade Cards Worth The Most Money
In preparation for Halloween, the Pokémon Trading Card Game releases specially-themed Trick or Trade BOOster packs each autumn, generally beginning in September. The sets feature cards with a Pikachu Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin stamp, giving them an extra thematic flair for the season, and they typically feature a range of particularly spooky Pokémon. However, despite the fact that each card in the set is already an exclusive because of this stamp, some of these Pokémon cards are notably more expensive than others, as is typical in the TCG setting.
There are fans of the Pokémon TCG who love to have complete collections, while others collect merchandise likethe annual Trick or Trade BOOster packs to flip them for a higher price. At first, the large supply of these cards makes their value low, but over time they can grow more valuable. Of course, this is always a gamble; the worst-case scenario can provide a scare greater than even the spookiest Pokémon in the Halloween season. Ultimately, the market price of even the rarest Pokémon cards can fluctuate greatly, and the most valuable cards listed here now are no different.
12 Flutter Mane (Temporal Forces 078/162)
2024 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
Being an Ancient Paradox Pokémon card, this Flutter Mane has a gradient to its background which works to bring out the details of its new holofoil effect particularly well. This card actually has a beautiful Secret Rare in its original Temporal Forces set, a promo card released alongside the main set which is found in the Walking Wake Temporal Forces Elite Trainer Box.
As such, due to the lower price point of Trick or Trade BOOster Packs and undoubtedly greater numbers of copies, this Halloween print is, unsurprisingly, not the most desirable (or expensive) version. Nevertheless, it is one of the most valuable within Trick or Trade as a whole, with TCGPlayer giving a current market price of $0.20 for this Flutter Mane.
11 Mewtwo (Brilliant Stars 056/172)
2022 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
Legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo is one of the earliest and most popular Legendaries. The clone is undoubtedly powerful (although its predecessor Mew is arguably the stronger Pokémon) and is a perfect choice to surprise Pokémon fans with on Halloween night.
Interestingly, this card’s Psyburn attack originated with another Mewtwo, a promotional card that was distributed in honor of the Mewtwo Strikes Back movie.
According to TCGPlayer, this card has a current market value of $0.21. The original version comes from the Brilliant Stars expansion, which actually released another promotional version of the same card. That Mewtwo, released to celebrate the release of the expansion, bears the Brilliant Stars logo in the same area where the Trick or Trade stamp is found, and is both the rarest and most valuable version of the card. However, from a gameplay perspective, Trick or Trade’s own version works just as well in any deck.
10 Darkrai (Obsidian Flames 136/197)
2024 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
The nightmare-inducing Legendary Pokémon Darkrai is a fitting addition to any spooky line-up, although it is worth noting that its signature power is not actually malicious in nature. Instead, Darkrai’s ability to give people bad dreams is more of a passive defense mechanism. Nevertheless, one would be hard-pressed to find a more suitable looking Pokémon for Halloween.
This 2024 Trick or Trade card is a reprint of the Rare Darkrai card found in the Obsidian Flames set, now with a new Cosmos Holofoil treatment. According to TCGPlayer, the card has a market value of $0.22.
9 Pikachu (Evolving Skies 049/203)
2022 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
Except for the particularly thematic Pikachu Jack-o-Lantern stamp, this card is a reprint of a Common-rarity card from the Evolving Skies expansion set. But regardless of whether one has the original, this new edition alone is sure to put a smile on the faces of many. It may still be far from being one of the most expensive Pokémon cards to be produced, but within the Trick or Trade set it is still worth more than many of its fellow cards.
Despite being a reprint, which is not uncommon for event promos, and not even having any Halloween ties in the picture, the card is a beautiful one. The artwork features Pikachu standing on a rock in a field, surrounded by flowers and trees; far from a Halloween scene, but one perfectly suited to the adorable Pokémon itself. This card has a market price value on TCGPlayer of $0.23 at the time of writing.
8 Pikachu (Paldea Evolved 062/193)
2023 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
The cheerful Electric-type Pikachu has actually featured in every Trick or Trade set to date, a clear mark of the mascot’s popularity. However, this particular card was a more surprising addition to the 2023 set than other choices might have been. This is because, as many who collected the special event cards noticed, it isthe same card reprint as was used for the 2023 McDonald's promotional cards, for the fast food chain’s own collaboration with Pokémon.
Originally from the Paldea Evolved set, which debuted in June 2023, the McDonald's promo, this Trick or Trade print, and its original release all appeared within a few months of each other. Regardless, the cheerful and always-adorable Pikachu is shown on this card alongside the Trick or Trade stamp to set it apart from its near-duplicates. Currently on TCGPlayer, the card is valued at a market price of $0.27.
7 Mimikyu (Paldean Fates 037/091)
2024 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
There are few Pokémon more perfect for a Trick or Trade Halloween set than the adorably creepy Mimikyu. Already dressed in a poorly-made but charming Pikachu costume, Mimikyu only needs something to hold the candy as it goes door to door on the holiday. Of course, the tricks this little one could pull might be a bit more dangerous than one would expect.
This card featuring Mimikyu is a Cosmos Holo and comes from the Paldean Fates set, though the same card has been reprinted many times for a variety of sets over the years. The Cosmos Holo treatment certainly adds to its Trick or Trade edition's value, with TCGPlayer listing it as having a market price of $0.29.
6 Gengar (Lost Origin 066/196)
2023 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
Gengar's card has the familiar Pumpkin Pikachu signifying its inclusion in the Trick or Trade set, but is otherwise a reprint of a Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield - Lost Origin card. Notably, both the original and this Halloween reprint are offered as holofoil cards. It shows a sinister-looking Gengar swinging from a chandelier, presumably inhabiting a literal haunted house.
At the time of writing, this version of the Gengar card is valued at a market price of $0.29 on TCGPlayer. Although it is certainly not one of the most expensive Gengar cards to exist, both its artwork and gameplay potential nevertheless give it its own appeal.
5 Pikachu (Paldean Fates 018/091)
2024 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
This card is nearly identical to another Pikachu card on this list, despite originating from a different set. Cosmetically, the only important difference to note is that this card is a Cosmos Holo card, which likely accounts for its higher value. Of course, the differing treatments of these two cards, as well as the fact they do belong to separate sets, does give some merit to the idea of collecting both.
The reason for the similarities here is that this Trick or Trade card is also based on reprint. The Paldean Fates expansion produced reprints of many cards alongside an extensive range of new alternate artwork featuring Shiny Pokémon. Of course, this Pikachu is a reprint of the more mundane artwork, but its new foil treatment still gives it a market price of $0.32 on TCGPlayer.
4 Umbreon (Obsidian Flames 130/197)
2024 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
Though Eevee may not fit with the spooky vibe of the Halloween season, its Umbreon evolution certainly does. The sleek Dark-type Pokémon can fit the spooky look of the night, and its powerful Pitch-Black Blade attack would make for a good trick. As if that isn't enough, the rings on Umbreon's body glow when exposed to moonlight, adding to an eery look.
According to TCGPlayer, Umbreon's 2024 Trick or Trade card currently has a market price of $0.40. This is more than double the price of the identical card that was printed for the Obsidian Flames set, which this one comes from. The only differentiation is the adorable Pikachu pumpkin stamp to distinguish it as Trick or Trade.
3 Gengar (Chilling Reign 057/198)
2022 Trick Or Trade BOOster Bundle
The sinister-looking Gengar with its Cheshire Cat grin and glowing red eyes is, of course, a perfectly spooky fit for the Trick or Trade set aesthetic. As one of the most iconic Ghost-type Pokémon, it would be strange for there to be a Halloween Pokémon collection without any reference to Gengar. As a result, it is unsurprising that every Trick or Trade set to date features a Gengar card.
This card is one of the oldest cards to be reprinted in any Trick or Trade set, although at the time Chilling Reign was only around a year old.
Given the Pokémon’s popularity, it is unsurprising that this Gengar card appears among the most valuable Trick or Trade cards. More specifically, TCGPlayer currently lists it as having a market value of $0.52 at the time of writing. Of course, there is still another Gengar that makes this list with an even higher price point.
