10 Biggest Predictions For Pokémon Presents (Pokémon Day 2025)

A new Pokémon Presents is on the way, with many fans expecting big updates about the popular franchise after one of the quietest years in Pokémon history. Thursday, February 27 is Pokémon Day, an annual celebration of the Pokémon franchise. As part of the annual celebration, The Pokémon Company will release a Pokémon Presents providing updates about various current and upcoming games.

No further details were provided about the Pokémon Presents, but fans are expecting a lot of updates about the still-mysterious Pokémon Legends: Z-A, possible new Pokémon games, and other parts of the franchise. Not only are video games and card games likely to get a focus, we may also hear more about other projects in the works, like Pokémon Concierge or the new collaboration with Wallace & Gromit studio Aardman Animations. Here are some of the things we expect to see come out of the new Pokémon Presents.

10 A New Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer

The First Info About The Game In A Year

The highlight of last year's Pokémon Presents was the first trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The trailer revealed that the game would return to Lumiose City in the Kalos region and would bring back Mega Evolution. However, no other details about the trailer were revealed. Since then, The Pokémon Company has remained silent about the game other than to expect it to come out this year.

Not only should fans expect a new Pokémon Legends: Z-A trailer, we should also get a first look at gameplay and a firmer release date for the game. The Pokémon Company has adamantly said that the game will come out in 2025, so we'll likely know if this will be a year-end release or something for a summer release by the end of the Pokémon Presents. This is probably the one thing we are guaranteed to get in this week's Pokémon Presents.

9 A Return To The Unova Region

Either New Pokémon Games Or The Release Of New Virtual Console Titles

Over the past few months, The Pokémon Company has blown a lot of smoke into the air about a possible return to the Unova region. Not only were there tons of Unova references in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's DLC, we're also getting a Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event conveniently launching this weekend as well. Perhaps most importantly, leaks indicated we're getting a new Pokémon TCG set focused on Unova, which makes no sense without some kind of tie-in.

Pokémon is rumored to be getting a classic collection of some of the original Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch and I love the games included already.

We're expecting to get some kind of answer about why Pokémon keeps bringing up the Unova region. Whether that's a new remake, an entirely new game, or just a virtual console game of some kind, I expect to see something Unova-related pop up in the new presentation. At the very least, expect to get a formal announcement of the new Unova set for this summer.

8 Project Synapse Reveal

Mystery Multiplayer Game Was Leaked This Year, But No Other Details Were Provided

Last year, The Pokémon Company was the subject of a massive data breach, with tons of information about past games and future projects leaked onto the internet. One of those leaks was Project Synapse, a new multiplayer game of some kind being developed by The Pokémon Company and DeNA. No details were revealed about the game other than that it was a multiplayer game of some kind.

Earlier this week, known leaker Pyoro (aka eb576dcfe) posted a picture of a synapse on their social media accounts, seemingly hinting that this new project will be officially revealed. Pokémon has had some success recently with third-party games like Pokémon Unite, so we're very intrigued to see what this new project is and how a multiplayer game can really capture the spirit of Pokémon.

7 Team Rocket Returns... To The Pokémon TCG

Teased Reveal Of Rocket's Pokémon Becomes A Reality

Last summer, the Pokémon TCG officially announced the return of Trainer's Pokémon, a kind of special Pokémon card tied to trainers from throughout the franchise. This mechanic expands a cool gimmick that was once limited to the early Pokémon games to characters of every Pokémon game. Confirmed trainers to appear in the new gimmick include N, Iono, Hop, and Cynthia.

Last year, a Pokémon TCG leak revealed the existence of The Glory of Team Rocket, a new set focused on Rocket's Pokémon. This was further teased during the Trainer's Pokémon announcement, but no other release dates were provided. I expect to see a formal announcement of these cards coming to the game, with the official reveal of Rocket's Mewtwo as a new chase card.

6 New Mega Evolutions

Don't Expect Pokémon Legends Z-A To Stay Content With Existing Mega Evolutions

Mega Evolution is probably the most popular of the many gimmicks that have appeared in various Pokémon games since Pokémon X and Y. While other gimmicks disappeared after a single generation of games, Mega Evolution appeared in two generations' worth of games and also now appears in Pokémon GO. There were some key Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y that were missing a Mega Evolution, such as the Kalos Starter Pokémon.

Being Pokemon's mascot, Pikachu is the focus for several plushes in The Pokemon Center, most of which are adorable and sell out quickly.

With a return to Kalos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, I expect to see new Mega Evolutions announced. I don't expect to see many new Pokémon forms (after all, the previous Pokémon Legends game only brought in a small handful of new Pokémon), but I think it's a guarantee we'll see popular Pokémon get Mega Evolutions. Expect one reveal in the new Pokémon Presents with the hint of more coming in the future.

5 Pokémon Classic Collection Finally Comes To Nintendo Switch

Full Access To Old Pokémon Games Via Virtual Console

One of the last big releases for the Nintendo 3DS was virtual console re-releases of several classic Pokémon games. These games were a huge success for Nintendo and fans have wondered when we'd get to play classic versions of Pokémon games on the Switch. Given Nintendo's ethos of either remaking games or making them available via digital format, we expect to see old Pokémon games on the Switch at long last.

Given that the Pokémon games are probably the biggest hold-back from the Nintendo Switch virtual consoles, our biggest question is not whether we'll get old games, but rather which ones we'll get. Will only Gen 1 and Gen 2 games get an official port or will other games also appear in the new bundle as well? If they do announce it, expect an immediate release of the games. There's no real reason to hold back anything from fans as the games can easily be released without any major work.

4 Pokémon TCG Pocket Gets A New Expansion

A New Pokémon TCG Pocket Set Is All But Certain

It shouldn't be a surprise that Pokémon TCG Pocket is going to release a new set timed with Pokémon Day, as two new Pocket sets were leaked weeks ago. What is a surprise is that we haven't gotten any news about what the set will contain, or even a new name for the set.

This next set is expected to be about the same size as the one-booster Mythical Island set.

To be fair, Pokémon TCG Pocket tends to keep a lot of its big news close to the chest. We know release dates, but few other details until new cards are about to be released. So, expect to see more Pokémon TCG Pocket reveals, likely with a mini-set showing off the long-awaited Giratina ex and some other cards missing from the previous Space-Time Smackdown release.

3 Pokémon Movie Update

The Pokémon Movies Have Been Neglected For Too Long

It's hard to believe it's been five years since the release of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle. While new Pokémon movies were once a regular part of the franchise's multimedia format, they've disappeared for several years due to upheaval in the animation industry. Several new Pokémon movies were scrapped at various points in production, according to the Tera Leak, but we haven't seen Pokémon on the big screen in a long time.

While live-action Pokémon announcements might be more exciting, we're going to predict the announcement of a new animated movie. Anime movies are a big deal these days and a high-quality Pokémon movie would probably do big numbers, especially if they involved the return of the long-missing Ash Ketchum.

2 Pokémon Concierge Season Two Announcement

More Episodes Are On The Way With No Release Date Announcement

One of Pokémon's low-key hits back in 2023 was Pokémon Concierge, which debuted on Netflix. The four episodes were fantastic but far too short, and we've received no updates about the future of the series since. However, The Pokémon Company recently put all existing episodes of the series up on YouTube, which seemingly indicates the company is ready to bring some focus back to the series.

Since Pokémon Concierge uses stop-motion animation, the show is obviously going to take a lot of work. Still, it's been about a year since the last episodes were released, and we know the show never stopped production of more content. We're hoping to get some clarity on when this cozycore series will pop back up on Netflix, even if it takes a bit more time for the episodes to come out.

1 A New Pokémon Reveal

We Want To See Something New And Exciting

More than any new game reveals or announcements, the thing that would set the internet ablaze is a new Pokémon species of some kind. It's weird to think that it's been over a year since a new Pokémon species was last revealed, and even those were tied to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's DLC. The DLCs added some much-needed content, but they will never replace the full-blown reveal of a new Pokémon species.

Whether that's a brand-new species that will appear in Pokémon Legends: Z-A or some sort of Gen 10 Pokémon tease, we're guessing that Pokémon fans will fall in love with a new species by the end of this Pokémon Presents. We're long due for a big surprise reveal, and a cute Pokémon species would certainly do the trick.
